Build an Awesome Floating Picnic Table, it's easy to build and definitely an extraordinary way to spend some time at the lake!
Floating Picnic Table

This ingenious mechanism has many great features that will make many of us want to own one. Serves as a picnic table and pontoon at the same time. You can dine comfortably even in the gentle rocking of the water, just as you would on a boat.
It is the perfect setting to catch up with friends, because you can eat there, fish, or sail the waters if you wish. You can jump in for a swim and dive back into the Sun without getting out of the water! And since this is a DIY project, you can also enjoy the fact that it is much cheaper than a boat 😉
Be sure to set up an umbrella for the picnic table for a more enjoyable experience around the lake during the day. Will this be your next DIY project? Have your friends help you achieve it!
You will need these materials:
- 55 Gallon Closed Head Plastic Drums/Kegs
- 2×6 wood
- Deck beams
- L Corner Brackets
- Cover screws
- Wood glue
Tools:
- Tape measure
- Miter saw
- Sander
- Cordless drill
- Wooden clamp
Step 1: Cutting and shaping

I started with 2 inch 4x8 foot sheets of foam board and cut them into thirds, then glued them together with exterior paint. Making sure to stay 2 inches from all edges so it doesn't interfere with the hot wire cutter.
Step 2: Extra support and float rail

I added a 2x4 to the bottom of the hull of each pontoon. Also to strengthen and give me a point to screw each pontoon to the picnic table.
Step 3: Foam

I added more foam to the sides of the pontoons, as well as a built-in cooler on one and dry storage on the other via a bucket and lid
Step 4: Assemble the motor

I used 1/2″ gas pipe and angle iron to build a bracket for the motor.
Step 5: Fiberglass

I put 2 layers of fiberglass and finished it with a cloth material.
Step 6: Fixing the floats

Each pontoon is attached with a threaded rod from the bottom to the bottom of the pontoon and into the seat bench supports.
Step 7: Fixing the engine and steering

The engine is a Johnson 9.9 and I made my own brackets and designed my own steering control from a car tire attached to a playground captains wheel. Next is the throttle, forward and reverse cables and levers, and add an umbrella, lights and you're ready for the water.
Step 8: Fleet
