Learn How to Build a Fire Pit Coffee Table, I hope you can learn from my build and have some luck building one for yourself. Below are the steps…
Step 1: Materials and tools
- Concrete
- Lava rock
- 2×10′ yellow pine
- Plywood
Tools
- Band saw
- Miter saw
- Table saw
- Nail gun
- Grinder
- Sander
- Welder
- Planer
Step 2: Concrete table

This is a complicated build for my skills.
The table is 44″x21″. This is made to fit my area. I start with a piece of plywood and put up 1.5x1.5 boards. The middle is a piece of MDF.
It is cut to taper on all four sides.
This will make it easy to remove once the concrete has dried. Halfway through the pour, I put down a piece of chicken wire and then continue pouring concrete.
Once everything is placed in the form tamp all the external boards to get a good concrete coverage on the edges.
Step 3: Burner and tray

I worked in reverse mode to make this go together.
First, the burner and container had to be removable.
This way, in the summer months I can turn off the fire and add a dill garden. So, there is a 1/4″ angle iron which is the flange that sits in the center of the table.
I then made a 1.5x1.5 thin angle iron base to make a hanging container that holds the burner and pan.
The burner is made of 3/4″ rigid tubing with 1/16″ holes drilled every 3/8″. I ordered a 1/2″ coupling piece for the adapter to a gas grill LP tank.
Then I had to reduce it to 3/8″ and a 1/4″ to 3/8″ adapter for the final piece.
Step 4: Table frame

The general plan was to make the table look like a loose pile of wood with very small looking pointy legs.
I mainly used 2x10 lumber for this. I had a pile of wood that consisted of 4′ yellow pine. The legs are cut 1.5″ square and the ends are tapered to a point using a band saw, plane, and sander.
I did the sides first. All boards are cut to slightly different lengths, widths and heights. Then, I did the gluing and nailing, nailing on the legs.
The ends are made from a group of boards cut to match the height of the side board. The style is random So when I worked with this wood, I didn't use a tape measure. I just put everything together.
PeguI made all my final pieces and then glued them together like a cutting board. Then he glued them to a piece of plywood. One side is glued and nailed to the table.
The other side is hinged at the bottom with a piano hinge. Held in place by a 3/8″ pin in the top corner that blends in nicely.
Step 5: Completion

Added in some lava rock that I bought for about $4. Enjoy the last few cold nights and any energetic mornings with a cup of coffee!
