Parents should treat all of their kids equally.
The best and easiest tip we could give to you is to treat your kids equally. Favoritism by parents can lead to unwanted consequences that you would not be ready to deal with. It can create feelings of resentment in your kids for one another. A 15-year-old boy took to Reddit to share how his parents prioritize his sister over him. OP’s sister, Ava, was born after many years of effort. She was a premature baby and almost died so OP’s parents love her more and care about her.
OP’s parents would prefer going to Ava’s school plays but won’t remember OP’s award ceremony. His birthdays have always been about Ava and not about him. They would always plan something that Ava would enjoy more. This time on OP’s 16th birthday, their plans seemed different so OP was excited about his birthday. But at the last minute, OP’s parents wanted to make everything about Ava. OP was pissed off and told his parents that he is down now. Scroll down for the complete story.
1. A boy took to Reddit to ask this to the Reddit community:
2. OP is turning 16 this month and his parents talked about throwing a party. OP has a little sister Ava. OP’s parents prioritize Ava over him.
3. Two years ago, OP wanted a PS5, he made a deal with his parents that he would save some money and the rest of it will be added by his parents. When OP had saved the money, his mother told him that Ava needs a haircut.
4. It was an award ceremony where OP was given an award for helping others. Ava’s school play was on the same day and OP’s parents chose to go to the school play.
5. OP’s birthdays have always been more about Ava.
6. OP’s parents were making exciting plans for his birthday and OP thought it would be different this year but not again.
7. OP’s parents told him that he should think about how to make him feel special. OP told them that he is done.
OP’s parents are trying their best to make one child feel loved but at the same time, they are making the other child feel left out and unwanted. This kind of upbringing is unhealthy for both of the kids. Scroll down to read the comments on this post.
8. OP thinks that he might be TAH for making a big deal out of his birthday celebration:
9. OP’s parents are failing him.
10. The way OP’s parents are raising Ava will leave her to be rejected and isolated because she will grow up to be an entitled person.
11. OP should enjoy his birthday with his friends.
12. OP’s friends must have seen him suffering.
13. OP should talk to any friendly adults in the family or to the school counselor.
14. OP’s parents would never listen to him so there should be someone who can have some sense talked into them.
15. OP’s grandpa has talked to his parents but they didn’t listen to him and it made no difference.
