Chelsea Transfer News: Chalobah Departs, Henderson Signs 2026

Chelsea transfer news is dominated by the departure of Trevoh Chalobah and the arrival of Jordan Henderson. The Blues have agreed a deal with Como for the England defender, while Henderson joins on a free transfer, reshaping the squad under new manager Xabi Alonso.

Chelsea Sell Trevoh Chalobah to Como

Trevoh Chalobah's long association with Chelsea is to end after Como agreed a deal worth an initial £25.7m. The 27-year-old, who joined the club at age eight, made 105 Premier League appearances and was a first-team option during turbulent periods. The package includes £5.1m in performance-related add-ons and a sell-on clause, generating pure profit for Chelsea as they balance the books.

This move is seen as a coup for Como's head coach, Cesc Fàbregas, who pushed to bring the centre-back to Italy. Chalobah's departure highlights the ongoing trend of clubs selling homegrown talent to meet financial regulations.

Jordan Henderson Signs for Chelsea

On the same day, Chelsea welcomed Jordan Henderson after his departure from Brentford. The 36-year-old midfielder joined on a free transfer, having played 34 times for the Bees last season and earning a place in England's World Cup squad. Henderson expressed his admiration for the club and manager, saying, "Given the size of the club, the manager, who I have great admiration for, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity I couldn't turn down."

Henderson's career includes 12 seasons at Liverpool, where he captained the team to Champions League victory in 2019 and the Premier League title in 2020. He also had spells at Al-Ettifaq and Ajax before joining Brentford last summer.

Key Transfer Details and Impact

The double move reflects Chelsea's strategy of balancing youth development with experienced signings. Chalobah's sale provides immediate financial relief, while Henderson adds leadership and depth to the midfield. Here are the key takeaways:
