Building a Wooden Drink Can Holder comes with a beautiful pattern and responds well to processing with hand tools. This little project is very simple, doesn't take much time, and requires a minimal amount of hand and power tools.
You will need:
- A piece of alder wood 27х90х2500mm. Cut it into five boards 1050 mm long.
Pluting it all together:
Put the work pieces together to make a board. Don't forget to combine the color. Check the fiber direction. Put a number on each board.
Place the planks together. Check the surface of each board using a ruler. Then check the angle between the face and the edge (90°).
Spread the glue evenly over the boards and press them down. Remove excess glue with a damp sponge. Leave it and wait until the glue dries.
Step 1: Cutting, joining and sizing
Cut the board into two equal-sized pieces with a table saw.
Trim one side of the board with a Router or Moulder set on a portable surface planing and thickening machine. Mark the surface with a pencil to ensure proper removal of material. The thickness of the removed material should not exceed 1 mm.
Trim pieces up to 22.5 mm thick with a portable planer. One side of each board should be marked one side of the face.
Step 2: Gluing and sizing
Put glue on the two newly made boards and press them together. To spread the glue evenly, use a small roller. Remove excess glue with a damp sponge. Leave it until the glue dries completely.
To relieve internal tension and allow the internal moisture of the glue to spread evenly throughout the piece, store it for 3 to 4 days.
Smooth the edges and adjust the size with a miter saw.
Step 3: Marking and drilling
Once marked and having all the intersection points. Fix in a drill press. Make sure the center of a hole is the center of the drill.
Start drilling from the middle of the workpiece. Move the drill along the ruler and drill the rest of the holes. To prevent the bottom from tearing, place an MDF pad underneath. Look carefully when you are drilling.
Step 4: Holes and profile
Make a template from a 10mm piece of MDF. Clamp it to the workpiece and screw it to a board. Find the middle and mark the workpiece. Match the template to the mark, press the template into the workpiece and finish the first hole. Make other holes in the same way.
Trim the outside edge of the mount using a trimming router with a 5mm radius cutter. Finish the walls of the holes and the back of the mount with a 45° chamfer cutter.
Step 5: Finishing and placing hangers
Do the final finishing. Start with an 80-grit sander and finish with a 120-grit sander.
Mark the areas where the hangers will be placed. Cut the mounting seats with a wood router. Cut 3 mm deeper in the places where the mounting elements will be placed. Secure the hangers with two self-tapping screws.
Personalization:
Transfer the image of the Pepsi logo to the board with a piece of carbon paper. And try to print the image on the wood and finally paint the drawing with wood paint. Ready!
