Transform Your Kitchen with Stickers: A DIY Guide 2026

Once upon a time, they were called "stickers." Today, we know them as decorative vinyl decals—generally made of plasticized material, hence durable—that reproduce various designs: objects, flowers, animals, utensils, and more. With these easy-to-apply DIY sheets, you can give your wall cabinets and base units a whole new look, perhaps covering up minor imperfections like faded or chipped areas. The possibilities are virtually endless: your imagination is the only limit.

How to Apply Stickers

The surface where you plan to apply the decals must be perfectly degreased. Wipe it down with a cloth dampened with mineral spirits or trichloroethylene (if applying on laminate).

Plan the layout of the designs you want to use by placing them in the desired spots and temporarily securing them with pieces of masking tape—this lets you check the overall visual effect.

Peel the decal from its backing sheet and position it on the surface, pressing it down firmly. If needed, trim the edges along the cabinet or wall unit.

Using a dry cloth, go over the decal several times from the center outward to remove any air bubbles or wrinkles.

Creative Ideas for Your Kitchen Makeover

Refresh Cabinets and Drawers

Cover the fronts of your kitchen cabinets and drawers with decals that match your style—think floral patterns, geometric shapes, or even faux tile designs. This is a budget-friendly way to update your home improvement project without replacing the entire kitchen.

Accent Your Kitchen Island

If you have a kitchen island or cart, apply decals to its sides or doors for a pop of color. Pair it with a new kitchen island or cart from our collection for a complete transformation.

Dress Up Your Dining Area

Add decals to the back of chairs or the edge of your dining table for a cohesive look. Complete the scene with a stylish dining table that anchors the space.

Coordinate with Lighting

Choose decals that complement your lighting fixtures—for example, metallic or mirrored decals can bounce light around a dim corner.

Extend the Theme to Your Living Room

If your kitchen opens into a living area, carry the decal motif onto a sofa throw pillow or a nearby wall decor piece to create visual flow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply decals on any surface?

Yes, as long as the surface is clean, smooth, and dry. Avoid textured or porous surfaces like raw wood or brick unless you seal them first.

How do I remove old decals?

Gently heat the decal with a hairdryer to soften the adhesive, then peel it off slowly. Any residue can be cleaned with rubbing alcohol.

Will decals damage my cabinets?

No, quality decals are designed to be removable without leaving marks or damaging the finish, especially on laminate or painted surfaces.

Can I use decals on appliances?

Absolutely! Decals work great on refrigerators, dishwashers, and even microwaves—just make sure the surface is clean and dry before applying.

How long do decals last?

With proper care, high-quality vinyl decals can last several years. Avoid abrasive cleaners and direct heat sources to extend their life.
