As the magazine "Time Out" reports, citing an article in the British "The Telegraph", from July this year you will have to reserve a place via a mobile app in order to go swimming on the popular beach of Tuerredda. Sardinia is known for being very crowded during the holiday season. No wonder that this also applies to Tuerredda: the beach is popular because of its fine white sand and crystal clear water - and apparently this is becoming more and more popular. Nature suffers from the crowds, the article says. Especially since there are apparently many of the many visitors who behave recklessly. Leaving plastic waste lying around has therefore been banned since 2022, as has smoking on the beach - and, by the way, taking stones with you. But regulations alone obviously weren't enough.

The app, which “The Telegraph” reports on, is intended to ensure that not too many bathers populate Tuerredda beach at the same time. The city administration has been trying to enforce an upper limit of 1,000 visitors per day for a long time. With the software application, this could now be done more reliably. When the beach is full, it is full - digital systems show no mercy.

Advance reservations are mandatory on some beaches in Sardinia
Tuerredda is not the first beach in Sardinia, let alone beyond the island, that requires you to reserve a spot before visiting. In La Pelosa, for example, advance booking has been required during the holiday season for years. Entry here costs 3.50 euros per visitor. This is intended to help regulate the crowds - 1,500 bathers are allowed on La Pelosa beach per day. This was reported by the Italian newspaper “Corriere della Sera” in 2020. In this case, booking is made via the beach’s website. Once the process is complete, users will receive a QR code that they must show at the “Spiaggia” entrance. A wristband identifies you as a verified guest throughout your stay.
By the way, the app thing isn't entirely new either. In San Teodoro in northern Sardinia, for example, you have had to reserve your place on the beach using the mobile application for some time now. Since 2023, the beaches of Cala dei Gabbiani, Cala Biriala, Cala Goloritzé (200 to 300 visitors allowed per day) and Cala Mariolu (700 bathers) have also been included. There is no spontaneous splashing around here: reservations via the app must be made at least 72 hours before the planned visit.
There are still many unanswered questions in Tuerredda
It is not clear from the “Time Out” article whether the reservation at Tuerredda beach will cost anything. The community hopes that the app will be available in the summer. It is not known whether it will then be possible to reserve a place to sunbathe offline. This would be particularly relevant for older visitors who are not so confident in the digital world, and also for people who simply cannot afford mobile devices such as smartphones.
