Last May, the Dakar 2015 was presented in Barcelona, which once again returns to South American lands with the same host countries of the 2014 edition: Argentina, Bolivia and Chile, start and finish in Buenos Aires passing through Iquique...
The 2014 figures:
• 713 competitors – 51 nationalities
• 3.9 million viewers
• 431 vehicles in the race: 174 motorcycles, 40 quads, 147 cars, 70 trucks
• 48% of the competitors managed to reach the end. One of the lowest figures in history.
There was a large presence of both vehicles and drivers, from Laia Sanz (what a woman!) to Nani Roma and Marc Coma, and quite a few journalists attending the presentation of the Rally par excellence.

But since someone has to time all this troops, Edox, the official timekeeper of the Dakar 2015, was also there, presenting the watch for this edition as well as part of its collection. Edox watches base part of their success on an exceptional quality/price ratio, an example of which is the Delfin, a chrono that uses a Ronda quartz machine whose price with bracelet does not exceed €800.

This is the official watch of the Dakar 2014 edition, of which there are no longer any stocks and which was here as a pure testimony: a quartz chrono in the brand's ChronoRally line. In preparation is what will be the official watch for the next 2015 edition, which is the one announced here.
Some of the models available on site: Grand Ocean automatic chrono. Or the Chronorally, also automatic (due to the arrangement of subdials, a 7750 movement, I assume). “Timing for Champions” is their slogan.

Edox is an independent and “family-owned” brand since its founding in 1884. Its watches are all assembled in Switzerland, with Swiss components and movements and since 1998 it has held the record for the thinnest calendar caliber. It presents a catalog of more than 250 references in a price range that goes from €400 to €3000. With a clear orientation towards the sporting field, it sponsors, in addition to the Dakar, the Classe One World Powerboat Championship, the Extreme Saling Series, Christian Redl, (world record holder for freediving in frozen waters) or the world Curling federation based in Perth, Scotland. Very well established in Eastern Europe and the Middle East (Off-Shore racing, Formula 1 of the sea, are very popular in Dubai), it has set out to gain its space in the Spanish market within this competitive segment.
