Glashütte Original is perhaps the brand that, along with Breguet, has had the clearest position within the always competitive Swatch Group. With a history of elegance behind it, starting precisely with that, its back or back: the three-quarter plates typical of Glashütte make the watches from the area practically unmistakable.
And in the Glashütte Senator Observer this is no different, but once again in this brand it competes with the dial part: a beautiful bicompax with a large date that joins the rest of the “Panos” presented at Baselworld 2015: the Glashütte Original Panomatic Lunar and the Glashütte Original Panomatic Reserve (although these two are versions of models already presented).

That dial, I say, with its large numbers in SuperLuminova as well as the coating of the white gold hands, is produced in the manufacture itself - something that very few brands can say - and is contained in a 42mm polished steel case, something that is not very common in a brand that has us accustomed to precious metals. Will that mean that it will be at affordable prices for common fans? We will have to wait until the end of the fair to find out... or not, because I will edit this article as soon as I have that information. Another feature of Glashütte Original is the Grande Date (or Panoramic Date) on two discs, which on this occasion is at six o'clock and unlike other Grande Dates, it does not have a divider in the center to hide the different height at which both discs are.
Although traditionally the observer watches evoked by the Senator Observer used manual winding movements, this one is equipped with a contemporary automatic movement to maximize the comfort of its use: the Caliber 100-14, with a power reserve of 55 hours (+/- 10%) represented by the 'Ab Auf' indicator on the dial and decorated in the style of the House, that is, exquisite: Beveled and polished edges of the plates, polished screws and balance with screws of adjustment. Visible through the sapphire caseback, in addition to Glashütte's signature ribbed three-quarter plate, it displays a skeletonized rotor with 21-karat gold oscillating weight and the golden double G logo.
