NOMOS Glashütte is now automatic. The new NOMOS DUW 3001 caliber presented at Baselworld 2015 is only 3.2 millimeters thick. The models equipped with it, the Minimatik Champagner and the Metro Neomatik, are consequently very thin watches. Or they were, because they were sold out just before presenting them on the market. And I know this first-hand because I have ordered a Minimatik Neomatik and they have given me a waiting period of… one year!
With the Swing System, the regulatory body created and patented by the brand, Nomos had already broken the Swiss monopoly, and with the DUW 3001 already in full production and being installed in the new models, the Glashütte watch company is experiencing great growth.
Once again, the past year has been the best in the history of NOMOS Glashütte: demand for its products is constantly growing to the point that Germany's largest independent watch manufacturer has managed to expand by 30%. In contrast, the Swiss industry is experiencing significant pressure due to the sudden appreciation of the Swiss franc, the extreme weakness of the Russian ruble, the decline in Chinese demand and... smartwatches. Faced with all this, the CEO of NOMOS Glashütte, Uwe Ahrendt, affirms that they can cope, that they sell more than they can produce: the company has doubled its size in the last three years.

The DUW 3001 is the tenth in-house caliber (produced at home) from Nomos in which most of the parts are installed between the base plate and the upper three-quarter plate, where there is a space of just one millimeter, quite a feat. If we also take into account that it is equipped with the Swing System regulating body, we can affirm that we are facing an authentic manufacture.
The regulating organ of the NOMOS Glashütte consists mainly of the balance, the lever and the hairspring. This last element – the spiral – is a particularly difficult piece to produce due to the properties that the material with which it is made must have: flexibility, invariability against temperature but above all, high resistance to magnetism. So much so that today there are only two or three companies in the world that manufacture spirals due to the patents that protect these materials.
With a strong presence in Germany and well distributed in the rest of Europe, they have begun their expansion in the United States and are already in such emblematic locations as Turneau or Toppers. Ahrend's intention is to double the size again in the next three years. Out of ambition it won't stay.
