This article we will show you how to make a complete Kubb set made of wood, using scraps of wood and some glue.
If you don't have scrap wood, purchase the 4x4 dowels you need, or choose one of the many commercial kits available, or simply use some firewood.
Step 1: Kubbs

Glue together two 1540mm long 2×4s using plenty of wood glue.
I used my garage door as a clamp (more examples of improvised clamps here).
Tear the edges to obtain a square 70×70×1540 mm long.
Cut into ten 150mm lengths.
Step 2: Canes

Cut a 910mm length of 2x4 and tear into 38x38mm lengths.
Cut back to an octagonal cross section.
There is an easy way to do this without measuring, just adjust the distance as shown in the second photo.
For a square of side length 1, this generates a perfect octagon of side length √2-1 (0.4142...).
Cross section in six lengths of 300 mm.
Step 3: King

Trim two 45° corners of a 1255mm long 2x4 to obtain a trapezoidal cross section.
Cut into four 310mm lengths. Glue them together to form a square with 88mm sides. I used some rubber surgical tubing as a "clamp."
If the small hole in the middle bothers you, glue a piece of wood trimmed to the correct dimensions to the inside.
Cut it all out to exactly 300mm, then carve additional decorations to make it as real as you see fit.
I continued with the octagonal vibe and made some bevels with the table saw, and made a cross-shaped ornament on top to echo a chess king.
Step 4: Corner Markers

Use the 45° cuts to remove the king.
Trim the edges and sharpen one end (I used a miter saw).
You will have enough to mark the corners and center line and you will have spares.
I made mine 350mm long, cut the knots and got seven (1 spare).
Use them to mark a playing area 5 steps wide by 8 steps long, with center markers halfway along the longest side.
If you're feeling up to it, why not make a mallet to hit the stakes with?
Step 5: Finally we have our Kubb set made of Wood

Coat yourself up with whatever you think is appropriate. I put a light coat in this outfit. It will have to be beaten, so I can't recommend putting too much effort into it.a softwood version. Greetings!
