Turn your iron door into something incredible just by using some basic tools that you can easily get.

#1: What you will need

• Wine bottles
• You can use a glass cutting tool or other interesting methods that you can find on our website.
• Bowl of ice water
• Taper candles with some type of support, such as a clamp or even a candelabra
• Tool for grinding glass with
• Adhesive foam tape or rubber stains to keep the glass in place.
• Silicone putty

#2: Collect wine bottles

This is the fun part, especially if you like wine...

• Remember to save the bottle (depending on the quantity, this may present a problem)

#3: Preparation for cutting

• Using your favorite bottle cutting tool, score a wine bottle 1 to 2 inches from the bottom. Circle the bottle only once to avoid multiple lines of punctuation.

#4: Turn that marked line into a fractured line…

• Once the bottle has been scored, you will need to apply heat and cold to gently crack it.
• Add ice and water to a bowl or pan.
• For heat, we found that a taper candle held in a vise worked best. Boiling water is fine, but with the number of bottles we were cutting, it was too time-consuming.
• Hold the bottle over the flame and rotate slowly to heat everything around the bottle where it is marked.
• After 2-3 full turns, or when the entire marked line is heated, immerse the bottle in the ice water for about 5 seconds.
• Your marked line should now be fractured along its length. Keep it in the light to check. Any point that is not fractured can be reheated and immersed in cold water.

#5: Separate the bottom of the bottle

• Once the bottle has been fractured, carefully remove the bottom of the bottle from the rest of the bottle. This seems to be the scary part, but it usually goes smoothly. If it doesn't separate, you may need another hot/cold treatment.

#6: Smooth bottle edges

• No matter how clean the cut is, it is a good idea to grind the edges a little to remove any sharp edges. Not all of our bottles cut this cleanly... Sometimes the fractures had a mind of their own and we had uneven edges. Grinding is more important then.

#7: Place the bottle bottoms on the door

• Now for the meat of the matter: get the funds in the iron circles.
• You will find that wine bottles are not uniform in size. And, of course, the many colors are what make it beautiful.
• Use the adhesive bits to keep the glass in place and centered on the circle
• Place all backgrounds in a color pattern that suits you best. Ours was pretty random.
• Place them before you start caulking

#8: Apply putty

• Caulking the front and back of the bottles.

#9: Recycle or Reuse
