Patek Philippe has just announced for this coming summer of 2017, specifically from July 13 to 23, the celebration of the US Historical Exhibition, one of the 10 thematic exhibitions that encompasses“The Art of Watches Grand Exhibition New York”.
In this exclusive exhibition, 27 dream watches from emblematic collectors of the American continent will be presented, which will be donated by thePatek Philippe Museumof Geneva, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum and various private collections.
As Larry Pettinelli, president ofPatek Philippe USA, the North American market has been fundamental for collectors ofPatek Philippesince 1850, so in this exhibition you can see spectacular watches that will also contextualize the evolution of the brand in the American market.
Watches that have made history
Among the models presented at this event, there are 11 special watches that come from two legendary collectors ofPatek Philippe: Henry Graves Jr. and James Ward Packard. Since the beginning of the 20th century, both acquired some of the most iconic and complicated watches ever made.
In addition to the famous “Henry Graves Supercomplication”, a pocket watch created in 1933 and equipped with 24 complications, the magnate commissioned many other models, including the first watch with a sky chart made byPatek Philippe. As for the collection belonging to James Ward Packard, the astronomical pocket watch “The Packard” will be part of the 5 models on display. This unique watch contains a minute repeater with three gongs, perpetual calendar, age and phases of the moon, sunrise and sunset times in Warren, Ohio, continuous equation of time, and sky map corresponding to the latitude of Warren. Opening the back of the case reveals a rotating celestial map with more than 500 gold-enamelled stars, representing the night sky of Packard's birthplace.

On the other hand, provided by the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston, in the exhibition you can see the historic autonomous quartz desk clock manufactured byPatek Philippefor the president, commissioned by the Mayor of West Berlin, as a gift after his famous speech “I am a Berliner”.

Finally, in the exclusive exhibition you can also see thePatek PhilippeRef. 130J, the watch that belonged to the legendary baseball star, Joe DiMaggio, created in 1948, a reference chronograph of the brand that the owners of the Yankees gave to the player and whose current owner has kindly donated for the occasion.
