A watch to immerse yourself in the depths of the great blue. HEAquatimer Deep Threehas come to change everything. IWC Schaffhausen launches the third generation of diving watches with mechanical depth gauge. HeAquatimer Deep ThreeIt is the technical evolution of Schaffhausen watches.
Product of the evolution of three different concepts of the rotating bezel system for measuring dive time and equipped with a 10 bar hermetic mechanical depth gauge and a lightweight titanium case, this machine perfects the advances of theGST Deep Onein 1999 andAquatimer Deep Twoof 2009 to ensure the safety and comfort of divers subjected to extreme conditions.
El GST Deep OneIt was equipped with an internal rotating bezel that was adjusted by means of a crown at 2 o'clock. With this complex technical solution, it was practically impossible to misadjust it and dive longer than allowed.
In addition, the luminescent-coated display scale was protected against water, dirt and scratches. The difficulty in manipulating the crown with diving gloves or in poor visibility conditions was resolved with the next model that placed it on the outside and allowed it to rotate counterclockwise to the left.
In it Aquatimer Deep Three The advantages of the internal rotating bezel – with the reference scale protected against dirt and scratches – are combined with the handling comfort of the external rotating bezel thanks to a refined clutch system that transmits the rotating movement of the bezel inwards. Also in this case, for safety reasons, the inner rotating bezel can only be rotated counterclockwise thanks to the systemSafeDive de IWC.

The mechanical depth gauge is the technical highlight of theAquatimer Deep Three, hermetic 10 bar. In the 1990s, theGST Deep OneTitanium was a rarity at a time when electronic measuring devices dominated the market. The engineers ofIWCthey equipped theGST Deep Onewith an internal measuring tube, around the movement, which when diving was filled with water thanks to micro holes in the crown. As the water pressure increased, it was deflected and thus transmitted the ambient pressure via a lever mechanism to a double needle. On the dial, a white hand indicated from the center the depth of immersion up to 45 meters, while an additional rattrapante hand, also designed as a central hand, remained stationary at the maximum depth reached. Since the axes of the measuring hands passed through the middle of the movement, there was no room for a large seconds hand. Divers not only appreciate the second hand for timing decompression stops, but also a permanent control of the functions. Ten years later, inAquatimer Deep Two, the depth measuring hands were placed around the movement: only the bent tips of both hands moved along the side display scale through a semicircular groove in the dial. This prevented the axles from passing through the movement and allowed a central seconds hand to be mounted.
Both in theAquatimer Deep Twoas in the currentAquatimer Deep Three, the pressure measurement system is located in a second large crown, on the left side of the case, protected by a folding flange. The water pressure acts directly on a membrane in this crown and presses a pin into the case. This movement activates the lever mechanism with the measuring needles. When diving, the blue depth indicator moves depending on the depth of the water on the white measuring field and always indicates the current diving depth. With the help of the second hand and the depth gauge you can control the maximum emergence speed of 10 meters per minute. The red indicator of the maximum depth reached remains stationary at the maximum depth up to 50 meters; important data to calculate the necessary decompression stops.
The titanium case of theAquatimer Deep Threereplaces the stainless steel structure. This, together with a narrower rotating bezel and rounded grip moldings, increases lightness and streamlines the traditional 46 mm diameter. On the right side, a reset button for the hand indicating the maximum depth reached has been moved from 8 o'clock to 2 o'clock. Under the titanium cover, at 4 o'clock, hides the clutch mechanism of the new rotating bezel system. Despite the multiple indications, the black dial is configured in a clear and simple way. The coating guarantees excellent ease of reference in any visibility condition. Its double coloring facilitates orientation in the dark: SuperLumiNova®s relevant indications for diving, such as diving depth, diving time, as well as time measurement in minutes and seconds, are green, while the hands and hour indices are blue. The reliable automatic caliber 30120, with date display, guarantees a comfortable 42-hour power reserve. A diving helmet adorns the back of the watch screwed five times while its extendable rubber strap adaptable to the size of the wrist completes a model made by and for ocean professionals.
