Since 1988, Chopard has been the brand sponsor and official timekeeper of the Mille Miglia, “the world's most beautiful race”, which runs every year from Brescia to Rome and back. After twenty-seven years (and probably much sooner) the Mille Miglia collection has achieved iconic status within the Chopard catalogue. To celebrate, the House has completely redesigned this great classic, starting the collectionMille Miglia GTS(Grand Turismo Sport), consisting of a three-hand chronometer with date, a chronograph and a model with a power reserve. Although this is not the most important thing: for the first time in the collection a Chopard caliber produced in the Fleurier Ebauches workshops is incorporated, being theMille Miglia GTS Power Controlthe first of the family to be presented.
Indeed, at Baselworld 2015 the three models will be presented, which are inspired by the lines of the classic cars that participated in this race between 1940 and 1957. Steel cases with a diameter of 43mm for the Automatic and Power Control versions, and 44mm for the Chrono version, with pointed, short handles and ergonomic drops for maximum comfort. The faceted hands, black aluminum bezel and red details reinforce its sporty character.
The self-winding caliber 01.08-C with 60 hours of Power Control has been completely conceived, developed and assembled in the Fleurier Ebauches workshops. At Chopard they use the expression Power Control to refer to the power reserve indicator, which in theMille Miglia GTS Power ControlIt is reminiscent of the gasoline level indicator on old racing cars. Certified COSC (Official Swiss Chronometry Control), it meets the demanding standards of the Swiss Maison and grants it the category of Chronometer that will appear on its dial: “Chronometer”.
Also on the dial, the date window is located on the red arrow, the Mille Miglia logo, referring to the bib numbers applied to the doors and fuselage of the competing vehicles. Likewise, the rubber strap is inspired by the Dunlop tires of cars from the 60s. A classic.
