One of the weak points in a mechanical watch is the friction of the different parts against each other, which requires the use of lubricating oils to prevent wear, oils that due to their very condition tend to degrade over time, thus losing their properties. ANDone of the most delicate points of a mechanical caliber is the escapement, where the wheel of the same name (“escape wheel”) tirelessly hits – twice a second… at least – the paddles of the anchor, the element that controls the force of the mainspring inside the barrel. In its constant search for functionality, Sinn has developed theDIAPAL technology.
The escapement, together with the balance, makes up the so-called “regulatory organ”, which is neither more nor less than the “heart” of the watch, whose regularity and precision are vital for its reliability, and which due to its frenetic activity (those twice per second, tick and tock, but which can reach up to 36,000 times per hour) has always been the Achilles heel of a movement that has constantly required the attention of technicians, seeking the balance between viscosity and volatility, since that at these speeds the local temperature is -proportionally- very high.
LaDIAPAL technology(contraction of DIAMANTE and PALeta) comes to definitively solve this problem: it basically consists of replacing the rubies of the lever pallet with diamonds specially cut and configured in such a way that they reduce friction to the point that makes lubrication unnecessary, freeing the watch, not even partially, from the mandatory periodic inspections and therefore lengthening its useful life. The research began in 1995, culminating in a patent in 2000 and the application of said technology in the first models of theWithout 756 DIAPAL. It was not easy, because the diamond blades were not enough: a material had to be found that, combined with them, would maintain an acceptable width of the steering wheel – that is, precision. Proof of this is that the first756 DIAPALThey were not available until 2007.
Currently we can find this innovative technology in different watches from the German brand, such as the Sinn 358 Diapal, Sinn 103 ST Diapal or the756 Diapal.
