True to its own tradition, Glashütte Original has presented two new models of its Pano and two Senators at Baselworld 2015. On the one hand we have the PanoMatic Lunar and the Panoreserve, and on the other the Senator Observer and this year's star: the Senator Cosmopolite. The most interesting thing is that in all cases – except in the case of Cosmopolite – the possibility of steel is offered, which makes their prices less stratospheric for the average fan.
The two Panos have well-defined personalities: matte black electroplated dial for the rose gold and dark blue for the steel, both with the hour and minute indications on a vertical axis located on the left and all the indicator elements distributed according to theGolden Ratio. It is important to remember that Glashütte Original has its own dial factory in Pforzheim, where around 40 operations are necessary to complete the process: just the application of the graphic elements requires four different steps (PanoMaticLunar) or even six (PanoReserve). The “Germany” of the set is evident in all its details: from the obvious legend “Made in Germany” to the German indications on the dial (GangReserve, MondPhase, Ab-Auf…) passing, of course, through the characteristic exquisitely decorated – and beveled – three-quarter plate of its caliber.
The PanoMatic Lunar is powered by the automatic caliber 90-02, 32.6mm in diameter and 7mm high, and has a rotor with a 21-karat gold counterweight and 47 rubies. 42 hours of power reserve (+/- 5%) that beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour or 4 hertz. The caliber 65-01 that the PanoReserve uses is a little smaller: 32.2 mm in diameter by 6.1 mm high and has one more ruby (48). It has the same power reserve (42 hours) 2 which this time is reflected on the dial.
Despite mounting different calibers, both models share the large “panorama” date, a small mechanical prodigy that differentiates them from many other large dates: most, for reasons of space, have the tens and units disc at different heights, applying the “trick” of putting a vertical segment in the window to hide that step. In the case of Glashütte Original, these are two concentric discs in the same plane, much more aesthetically attractive as they do not need said segment. They also share the duplex adjustment, a double swan neck for fine adjustment of the movement of the watch: the one on the left regulates the symmetry of the movement by acting on the pin, while the one on the right acts directly on the index, shortening or lengthening the effective length of the hairspring. And of course the magnificent hand-decorated steering wheel bridge, a steering wheel that is in turn balanced by eighteen! screws.

The case, whether made of rose gold or steel, has a diameter of 40 mm, a height of 11.7 (one millimeter more in the case of the PanoMatic Lunar) and of course a transparent case back to be able to admire the magnificent work of the watchmakers and artisans of the manufacture. Both the indexes and the hands are made of gold (pink or white as the case may be). Width between lugs of 20mm that can accommodate an alligator strap in a color matching that of the dial or a bracelet in the case of the steel model.
The prices are the same for both models: €20,200 for the rose gold version and €9,700 for the steel version (€1,100 more if you opt for the bracelet in the steel case). A German manufacture for less than €10,000? If not a “future”, it becomes a “considerable”.
