The end of autumn has brought unique news to the world of watchmaking:Casiohas announced that it has exceeded the number of shipments for its watchG-SHOCKof 100 million units.
It is a model that the Japanese brand began to market in 1983 and has been developing to this day, 35 years later. The first model, the DW-5000C, was the result of the Japanese firm's effort to create a shock-resistant watch that would not break down after the first fall. The triumph was total thanks to its empty structure and the urethane cover that covered it.

In 1984, its great resistance to shocks made it a very popular model in the USA, where thanks to the size of the watch, which adequately adapted to the wrists of many American men, it became popular among hikers, firefighters, and police officers. Already in 1990, with the implementation of the innovative liquid crystal display for the DW-5900C, the brand gained even more value.
This Western success made theG-SHOCKbecame fashionable again in Japan. The total number of watch shipments in Japan grew from 10,000 in 1990 to around 700,000 in 1995, thus confirming the exceptionality of the product.G-SHOCKIt became the first digital watch to be adopted by the modern mass of Japanese youth.
Thus, starting in 1996,Casiobegan a new expansion, marked by the appearance of models such as the MRG-1, as part of the new “MR-G series” and the MRG-100, which stood out for its metal casing and its great resistance to shocks. With them Casi managed to connect with various social groups that are sports enthusiasts, such as snowboarders and surfers, as well as reggae fans, DJs and dancers. In 1997, 6 million watches were soldG-SHOCKworldwide, including 2.4 million units in Japan.

When a few years later, entering the new millennium, its popularity began to decline, the modelsG-SHOCKThey began to evolve in terms of functionality and performance. As a result of this change, the GW-300 (2002) appeared, equipped with radio-control technology and a solar battery, the GW-9200 (2008), which can receive time calibration by radio signals from six stations around the world, and the GW-4000 (2012), equipped with the TRIPLE G resistance, technology to resist shocks, centrifugal force and vibration.
This technical development has reached our days, maintaining the resistance standards that characterize theG-SHOCKfrom the beginning, with the appearance of several models that also stand out for their connectivity: the GB-6900 (2012) that can be linked to the user's Smartphone, creating new value for the wristwatch, the GPW-1000 (2014), which offers incredible timekeeping precision thanks to a hybrid system that allows it to receive calibration signals from GPS satellites and six radio transmitters spread around the world, and the GPW-2000 with the “Connected Engine 3-way module”, which receives radio control signals and time calibrations from GPS satellites, while it can also connect to time servers with the Smartphone.

With the latter, the evolutionary chain of the G-SHOCK closes, for the moment, however,Casiocontinues to advance in the development of not only its emblematic watch but a successful marketing campaign to raise the popularity of its watch in all corners of the world.
