The heart of the German Black Forest was the place chosen by Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law in 1861 to begin manufacturing watch accessories. Four years later they entered the manufacturing of watches and, at the beginning of the 20th century, they were already producing more than 3 million and had more than 3,000 workers."After surviving World War II, Junghans became the third world watch brand after Rolex and Omega," adds Baldomero Cabeza, general director of Time Quartz S.L, official distributor of Junghans in Spain.
A JunghansHe is credited with having manufactured the first quartz watch in the world in the 1970s. Although he had already become known shortly before, it was in 1956 that he brought to light one of the first collections for which he became famous and which, as Cabeza assures us, are mainly characterized by an extra-flat design: the Meister collection.
Today,JunghansIt has more than 150 years of history behind it and lines that are committed to simplicity, Bauhaus design and thin bevels for easy reading. Although "without a doubt, the main characteristic of these watches is their quality-price ratio," says Baldomero. Its creations are mainly divided into two collections: the Max Bill, the most emblematic series of the house with greater international recognition, and the Meister, notable for its extra-flat designs.
One of the technical aspects present in most watchesJunghansis the use of Sicralán in its crystals. As he explains to us, it is a typical technology that provides the glass "with a coating that helps the product to be viewed and that also makes it scratch-resistant, thanks to a layer established above the glass. This technique is widely used in the automotive industry because it prevents snowflakes and water specks from condensing.”
"And to watch lovers who prefer sapphire, what would you say about Plexiglas?" - we asked. «Plexiglass is part of the personality of each watchJunghansand, therefore, they do not have to have any fear since the flexibility that characterizes them prevents them from breaking as easily as others," the interviewee assures us.

Baldomero Cabeza does not rule out that in the future some piece from this collection will be created in 42 mm, however, he highlighted the current trend in the world of watchmaking to remain in small sizes and even reduce them, between 38 and 40 mm in diameter.
