Movie and cult watch, an object of desire for several generations and a classic of watchmaking technique and design, the chronographMonaco Caliber 11 is reinvented in 2015to embrace its most classic edition. With all the attributes that catapulted the Monaco as one of the most desired watches - the 39 mm, the crown on the left, the petrol blue dial, the date window at 6 o'clock and even the inscription of the vintage Heuer logo - the La Chaux-de-Fonds manufacture reissues one of its classics in a model in which the most consolidated details added in recent years are barely added.
With the historic water resistance to 100 meters, the Monaco Caliber 11 presents among its novelties a three-part steel case (an evolution from 1998), somewhat more square in the 2015 version and closed with 4 screws. Its two pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock are rectangular in shape and its handles are more solid. The set is completed by the perforated calfskin strap, the sapphire crystal (included as of 2009) and an open case back that allows a glimpse of the caliber's running-in.
History of the TAG Heuer Monaco
Presented simultaneously in Geneva and New York on March 3, 1969, theHeuer MonacoIt is, historically, the first square and water-resistant automatic chronograph watch in the history of Swiss watchmaking. Named by Jack Heuer after the Monaco Grand Prix (of which TAG Heuer remains a partner today), the watch completely broke with the aesthetic codes of traditional watchmaking and its technology offered impeccable water resistance and the famous Chronomatic Caliber 11, the first automatic chronograph movement to be marketed in the history of watchmaking.
Linked to the world of motorsports of its genesis, its beginnings began on the circuits in 1970 on the wrist of the Swiss racing driver Jo Siffert and was a fundamental complement on the wrist of Steve McQueen a year later during the filming of the film Le Mans in 1971. Immediately recognizable and often copied, the "McQueen Monaco" (model 1133B) has since become a very coveted in the auction and collector's pieces market.
