It is an ancient technique that few professionals master, which is why it is almost no longer used in the watchmaking sector. With the champlevé method, the colors are obtained from different tones of metallic oxidation, and the piece is baked until the enamel is cast. Then, when the temperature drops, it is polished.
The result is a piece of great artistic value whose sphere, carved in gold, represents a scene that evokes the image of an oil platform, which shines on the abrupt waves of the North Sea, carved in the foreground. Under a reddish sky the details of the main structure can be seen, and in the background another golden platform in full activity appears.
When the minute repeater function is activated and the hours, quarters and minutes chime, the 18-karat Jaquemarts representing the platform cranes are activated.
