As we have already mentioned, Chopard has turned to Master Kiichiro Masumara to supervise the realization of the dials of theL.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Dogusing the Urushi technique, an ancient art of lacquering that transforms a very special type of resin into a very resistant lacquer. Master Urushi encapsulates in this lacquer a series of tiny iridescent particles, which give it that relief, that light and the incredible delicacy of its tones. Recognized as a master of his art, Japan has granted him the status of National Human Treasure.
On the other hand, the spheres have been made by Master Minori Koizumi, grand master Urushi. For this collaboration, Chopard has turned to the services of the Yamada Heiando house, official supplier to the Japanese imperial family.
Furthermore, the spectacular artisanal aesthetics of theL.U.C XP Urushi Year of the dogIt is also accompanied by a refined technique with the presence of exceptional movement. Inside its extra-flat case measuring 39.5 mm in diameter and 6.8 mm thick, beats a self-winding mechanical movement: the L.U.C. 96.17-L. Equipped with two barrels for a power reserve of 65 hours, thanks to Twin technology, this caliber achieves the unique feat of being integrated into such a thin case thanks to the off-center microrotor technique. Beveled, engraved and guilloché-worked 22k gold oscillating weight and bridges adorned with Côtes de Genève.
It is, therefore, a caliber decorated and finished by the expert hands of the Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier, in accordance with the highest standards of aesthetic quality of traditional watchmaking, a movement that can be observed through the open back of the 18k rose gold case.
