The new Oris El Hierro Limited Edition emerges from the center of the earth with a story to tell.In October 2011, the roar of the Canary Islands volcano caused major natural disasters in the marine fauna of the island of the same name. The eruption, which came from 1,000 meters below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean, lasted until March 2012, leaving the cone of the volcano only 86 meters from the water surface. Aware of the situation, Oris has just announced its alliance with the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) to support the scholarships of three students from the Faculty of Marine Sciences at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) aimed at the study of this powerful natural environment. The scholarships will be aimed at students of the Master's degree in oceanography and will include internship programs within the framework of the Master's thesis project on the El Hierro volcano. Curiously, despite being part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2000, the El Hierro volcanic is the least investigated of the Canary Islands. To raise funds to pay for the scholarships, the manufacturing company will allocate the proceeds from sales of theOris El Hierro Limited Editionin a gesture that connects the brand with its most collaborative spirit. The watch is a black DLC coated version of the Oris Aquis collection, which will show off an engraving of the volcano and its coordinates on its black background.

The new model is inspired by volcanic rock with its combination of gray and black tones, while the minute scale on the bezel, the dial and the central seconds hand are dyed red to represent molten lava. HeOris El Hierro Limited EditionIt is powered by an automatic movement and has all the features of the Oris Aquis diving watch collection, including the unidirectional rotating bezel with ceramic coating, crown guard, water resistance up to 30 bar/300m and black rubber strap with the safety anchor developed by Oris, as well as a folding clasp with quick-adjustment sliding system.

This model joins the exclusive family of limited edition diving watches created by the independent Swiss brand. Like each of its predecessors, it is a highly functional tool that, in this case, also contributes to the work of an organization focused on the environment. The model, available in May, will be limited to 2,000 pieces and will have a price of approx. €1,756 (1,950 Swiss Francs).
