Following the tradition of a legendary collection, the new models combine practicality and style and are the result of years of innovation applied to watches for professional use. The new onesPlanet Ocean 600M Deep Blackcombine the properties of a diving watch with the GMT function in itsOmega caliber 8906 Co-Axial Master Chronometer(certified by METAS and resistant to magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss). Externally, the most notable thing is the use of ceramic, which comes to this collection after its successful appearance in the Speedmaster collection with its Dark Side of the Moon. The cases, dials and bezels are made of this material (Zirconium oxide, Zr O2), while the latter are combined with rubber, Sedna™ gold or Liquidmetal®, a material whose use in watchmaking is exclusive to Omega. The process takes advantage of the different hardness of the materials to deposit rubber, gold or Liquid Metal directly on the ceramic bezel that previously has the immersion scale laser engraved and then polishes the surface, leaving the ceramic visible again while the metal or rubber remains in the engraved areas.
And speaking of rubber, among thenew Planet Ocean models Deep BlackThere are two that are sure to become best-sellers: with striking blue and red colors in their details, including the bezels, they have the look that one would choose for a summer watch. The rubber straps are finished with buckles also made of black ceramic combined with titanium.
In addition to the presentation, we were fortunate to be able to have the assistance of several technicians from the brand who explained to us in detail both the processes of inserting the different materials in bezels and crowns (the crown to release the helium, at ten o'clock has the letters He in Liquid Metal, just like the Omega symbol on the time-setting crown) and the non-magnetic characteristic of theOmega caliber 8906. This is achieved with the use of non-ferrous materials, starting with the silicon spiral spring - this can be counted - and ending with secret alloys that the brand jealously guards.
