With the new Prospex Solar chronographs, Seiko takes another step in its effort to produce watches powered by “clean energy” while meeting the expectations of its users. Prospex Solar chronographs use photoelectric cells to generate electricity and obtain a movement with low energy consumption, which allows them to work in any type of light: With just one minute of exposure to sunlight, an autonomy of one hour is achieved, and a full charge is achieved after three hours of exposure. Not only that: the new chronographs have more than six months of autonomy in complete darkness.
A model that comes with a light brown or black textile strap, with a leather back. In addition to a chronograph, they have an alarm, calendar and compass thanks to the rotating inner ring where the cardinal points are located. Its large luminescent hands allow a clear and quick reading of the time even in low light situations.
As they will most likely be officially presented at the Baserlworld 2015 fair that starts tomorrow, I will have the opportunity to obtain live photographs of watches that update a concept with more than thirty years of history: quartz chronograph with two-hand alarm (minute and hour hand) at six o'clock, which allows practically absolute precision when programming it. And I speak with knowledge of the facts: one of my first “serious” watches was precisely a Seiko chronograph; Yes, it still ran on batteries. What does not seem to have changed in all this time is the price: almost the same.
