with the collectionSixties Iconic Collection and the versions with blue dial of the Senator Perpetual Calendar and the Senator Panorama Date Moonphase Glashütte Original. This year, 2015, it has started its own tradition of “Boutique collections”, that is, those that can only be purchased in the stores that the brand has around the world but not from distributors.

A few years ago Glashütte Original presented the successful Sixties collection based on the Spezimatic that the former VEB Glashütte Uhrenbetriebe - of which it is the heir - launched in 1964.
Apparently simple watches with the flavor of vintage, but equipped with all the technical innovations that a manufacture like Glashütte Original could provide: from the domed sapphire crystals on both sides to the large date with the two digits on the same plane, a trademark of the watch. Sixties Panorama Date, passing through a magnificent in-house caliber 39-52 (39-47 for the Panorama Date).
In 2015 Glashütte Original presented the Sixties Iconic Collection: five watches that give all the attention to a part as important to them as the dial. Sixties Red, Sixties Golden, Sixties Aqua, Sixties Brown and Sixties Gray are their names, and they combine a series of techniques that the brand's dial manufacturing, located in Pfrzheim, masters perfectly: not in vain they have been producing them for almost a century.

Red, Golden and Aqua present a Soleil finish (that is, a radial effect from the center outwards that gives it a sunray appearance, hence its name in French) combined with different layers of lacquer that, when applied by hand, make each dial – and therefore, each watch – a unique piece.
For their part, Brown and Gray add to this effect the stamped pattern provided by a die applied using a 60-ton press: rhombuses for Brown and dew drops for Gray. The five dials feature the collection's typical curvature and the indexes cut directly into the metal in clear homage to the original Spezimatic.
El price of each of the watches in the Sixties Iconic CollectionIt is €6,500, and at the time of writing this text they are practically sold out.
The referencesPerpetual Calendar and Panorama Date Moonphase from the Senator collectionfor the Boutique collection they differ from their sisters in the dial, with a characteristic blue color that only the long experience in galvanizing of the Pforzheim manufacture can give them. In a polished steel case and equipped with an alligator leather strap, also blue in color and with a nubuck finish, they are placed in a price line that, without being cheap, gives access to the so-called great complications (large date, perpetual calendar) for considerably less than other Fine Watchmaking brands.
And we are talking about Fine Watchmaking when we mention Glashütte Original, manufacturing in all its meaning from the moment it designs, manufactures and assembles its own calibers “in house”, which is what the expression “in-house” means in reference to watchmaking manufactures. Not only that, it also decorates – both mechanically and by hand depending on the case or piece – the components of those calibers.
El Senator Perpetual Calendar has a price of €19,200 while the Senator Panorama Date Moonphase stays at 9,900. In both cases you have to add €1,100 if you want the metal bracelet instead of the blue leather strap with folding clasp.
