It could be said that, taking advantage of the fascination with myths, cult objects are created with the remains of a mythical car. This time it's about the fabulous (in several senses) Ferrari 250 GTO, of which only 39 examples were built. The number 250 refers to the capacity in cubic centimeters of each engine cylinder, and the acronym GTO means in Italian: "Gran Turismo Omologata" (Homologated Gran Turismo).
In 2013, a British collector whose name is unknown paid 52 million dollars (38 million euros) at auction for one of the only 36 examples ever built (wikipedia) of the Ferrari model 250 GTO between 1962 and 1963. This vehicle now has the British license plate GTO 6 and is – at the moment – the most expensive car in the world. So much so that another one recently went on sale in Germany for more than 47 million euros.
Previously, between 2005 and 2006, it was subjected to a restoration process and part of its aluminum bodywork was changed, with the replaced material being thrown into the trash? No! A clever watch maker,Christopher Ward, in collaboration with TMB ArtMetal, has obtained part of that precious aluminum and has made some small discs that, engraved with the figure 6 in reference to the British example, have been inserted into the back of a chronograph specially created for the occasion.

The C70 3527 GT (which inherits its name from the original chassis) will go on sale in a limited edition of 100 copies for the modest price of £2,150 (£1,791.67 if you are from outside the EU), will feature a blind back with sapphire crystal that will reveal… the aluminum disc with the number 6 engraved on it. High-precision chronograph as it mounts a thermocompensated and COSC-certified ETA 251.233 quartz movement, the case also has a plate on the case as a chassis identification.
It can be ordered on their website along with – if desired – a set of cufflinks also made with part of that recycled aluminum. The twins cost 495 pounds sterling (16% less if you are non-EU). Everything to be delivered in October 2014 and they offer a 60/60 guarantee: 60 days to return them without penalty and 60 months (5 years) guarantee for the watch.
