For the 34th edition of “La corsa più bella del mondo” Chopard, sponsor and timekeeper of the race, has created the Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition watch fusing the love for beautiful mechanics with the search for maximum performance.
Commemorating the historic races that took place between 1927 and 1957, the Mille Miglia has faithfully perpetuated, from May 19 to 22, 2016, this spirit in the most beautiful transalpine landscapes between Brescia and Rome where more than 400 collector cars travel, during four stages, the legendary 1,000-mile (1,600km) route. Converted into an annual race, the competition expresses authentic values that are based on the passion for elegant mechanics, adventure and coexistence between athletes. This long association has given rise to a collection of highly appreciated sports watches: the famous Mille Miglia of which, on the occasion of each of the editions of the race, a new limited and numbered series is presented, enriching the emblematic Chopard collection. This exclusive watch has been produced in two limited editions of 1000 pieces in steel and 100 pieces in 18k rose gold. HeMille Miglia 2016 XL Race Editionroars thanks to a unique engine: the new Chopard caliber 03.05-C, chronograph movement, whose precision is certified by the COSC. Its dial, surrounded by a tachymeter, revives the aesthetics of the classic dashboards, offering maximum legibility thanks to its large numbers and luminescent hands. Water resistant to 50 meters, its robust 46 mm diameter case makes this watch the largest of all the Mille Miglia chronographs created by Chopard. Inspired by the leather straps that held the hoods of cars, its aged calfskin strap in “Suportlo®” is reminiscent of the mythical spirit of Italian competition.
