Brick coating on your concrete stairs

If you don't like the concrete floor that you have on the stairs of your patio or the entrance to your house, we recommend a brick coating, it is the ideal option to renew the appearance and its installation is very simple.
It's time to take advantage of this fantastic idea, that's why today we want to encourage you to do it yourself by following the complete guide that we have prepared exclusively so that no one feels like covering their own staircase with a brick covering.
You will need these materials:
- Hammer
- Mixing vat
- Mason's trowel
- Level
- Small hammer
- Brick set
- Mortar bag
- Paint brush
- Garlopa
- Burlap cloth
- 1-1/4-inch screws
- 2x4 – 1x4 -3/4 inch plywood
- Mortar type M
- Bricks / Stones / Cement
Procedure:
Step 1: Cut and place forms
Cut the mortar bed forms from 3/4-inch plywood and place 2x4 stakes next to them. Level the shapes with the top edges 1/2 inch above the top of the steps. To place mortar bricks on freshly poured steps, leave the forms in place and add a ½-inch extension.

Cut strips of 1/2-inch plywood the same length as the tread of each step. Fasten each strip to two 6-inch lengths of 1x4 with the top edges flush. Place the strips on the top edge of the forms and fit the 1x4s to the forms. These strips serve as a screeding surface for the mortar bed and do not have to contain the lateral stresses exerted by the concrete.
Step 2: apply mortar
Mix a small amount of premix mortar in a mortar box, following the directions on the bag. Using a mason trowel, spread approximately 1/2 inch of mortar along the bottom and across the face of the first riser.

Step 3: Lay First Step
Place the first vertical brick in place. The joints on both the landing and the riser are 3/8 inch thick. Make sure the top of the brick is level with the top of the step. Butter the end of the second and next hands to work eat the folded bricks and place them in place. When you have placed the vertical brick, set a level across them to ensure they are level and flush.

Step 4: layer of mortar
Apply a layer of mortar approximately 1/2 inch deep over the surface of the first tread. Spread the mortar on the top edges of the vertical bricks you have already laid. Cut a 1x or 2x ruler across the outside width of the shapes and pull the ruler over the mortar, working the ruler back and forth as you go.

Step 5: lay bricks
Place the bricks on the tread, starting from the back of the tread. Keep the bottom board about 3/8-inch thick and space the brick on the surface with 1/2- or 3/8-inch plywood spacers. Set the brick into the mortar by tapping it with the end of the trowel handle. Remove the spacers as you go and level the brick with a ruler.

Step 6: Fill joints
Using the same techniques, continue laying vertical bricks and bricks, spacing and leveling each step. Let the mortar harden. Then mix the mortar for the joints. Squeeze the mortar into the joints with a mortar bag. Complete the joints completely.

Step 7: smooth joints
When the mortar in the joints begins to harden, use them with a jointing tool. Smooth the horizontal joints first, then the vertical joints. That way, rainwater will have a free path to flow down the front of the steps. Let the mortar form, then rub off the excess with a piece of wet burlap. Allow the mortar to cure for five to seven days before using the steps.
