Learn How to Build a Wall Mount for your Laptop, this is an easy and inexpensive way to mount your laptop on a wall.

The articulating arm provides a wide range of motion to position the laptop at different angles. I hope you like this project!

#1: Plans and Measurements

This wall mount is designed to hold my 17″ HP laptop which weighs approximately 6 lbs.

If you have a larger or heavier laptop, you should adjust the dimensions of these parts to keep the extra weight down so your laptop doesn't take a nasty fall. Also, it's probably not a good idea to lean or sit on it either, just saying, in case you ask...

#2: Cut the pieces

I cut the parts using my table saw and band saw, but you can also use a jigsaw. It is important that the holes are drilled as straight as possible, so I recommend using a drill press. You can use a drill if you use a block or square to drill as straight as possible.

Note:

If the holes are crooked, it will be difficult to screw on the articulated arm and may cause the laptop to tilt to one side or the other.

#3: Assemble the platform

I used 1/2″ Baltic birch plywood and a strip of walnut for the deck. The walnut strip is glued and nailed on the front to prevent the laptop from sliding.

#4: Apply Wood Finish

I sprayed all the pieces with wood finish. It dries quickly and a few light coats will protect the wood.

#5: Assemble the Wall Mount

Assemble the wall bracket with the bolts, washers, nuts and screws listed on the drawing

Start by mounting the E-shaped piece to the wall. Note that I added a large piece of walnut between the E-shaped piece and the wall to spread the strength.

Also, I glued some strips of walnut to strengthen the E-shaped piece, since the grain direction of the E could cause the horizontal tips to come off with too much leverage. You can place the longest pair of arms, followed by the shortest arm.

Place the small vertical piece on the short arm. Attach the two platform supports to the short arm, then attach the platform with screws.

Tip:

DrillPilot holes for screws so the wood doesn't split.

#6: Insert a screw for the tilt mechanism

To prevent the platform from tilting too far forward and throwing your laptop to the ground, tilt the platform forward as much as necessary, then insert a stop screw into the upright piece to prevent it from tipping forward.

Step 7: Use your Laptop
