Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 and 4 Gen 4: Qualcomm's new solutions for affordable smartphones 2026

Qualcomm is enriching its range of mobile processors with two new chipsets, the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, which are mainly aimed at entry-level and mid-range devices.

Despite the gradual transition to 5G, 4G LTE still has an important role in the market. This is confirmed by the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2, which was introduced quietly and comes as an upgrade of the Gen 1.

The new processor features a Kryo CPU with a frequency of up to 2.9GHz, offering up to 51% higher performance than the previous generation. Adreno GPU is up to 20% faster and supports 1080p+ resolution displays with up to 120Hz refresh rate.

The chipset is manufactured at 6nm, a clearly more modern lithography than the 11nm of its predecessor. It supports up to 8GB of LPDDR4X memory at 2,133MHz, UFS 2.2 storage, a USB port with speeds up to USB 3.1 and Quick Charge 3 technology, with Qualcomm promising up to 80% charge in 35 minutes.

On the camera front, the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 supports sensors up to 108MP, while the 12-bit triple ISP can handle 13+13+5MP or 16+16MP setups with zero shutter lag. HEIC photos and HEVC videos are supported, with a maximum recording resolution of 1080p at 60fps.

As its name suggests, the chipset is limited to 4G LTE connectivity, with speeds of up to 390Mbps download and 150Mbps upload. It includes Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2 with aptX Adaptive and full support for navigation systems including dual-band GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS and NavIC.

On the other hand, Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 brings 5G to the budget segment. The modem supports sub-6GHz networks (SA and NSA) with speeds up to 2.5Gbps in the downlink and 900Mbps in the uplink. Local connectivity includes Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 with aptX.

The chipset is manufactured at 4nm and features two Kryo cores up to 2.3GHz and six cores up to 2.0GHz. The Adreno GPU supports 1080p+ displays at 120Hz, while in addition to LPDDR4X memories, LPDDR5 at 3,200MHz is also supported, as well as UFS 3.1 storage. There's also USB 3.2 Gen 1 and Quick Charge 4+ support, charging up to 50% in 15 minutes.

On the camera front, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 also supports sensors up to 108MP, with dual ISP for 16+16MP setups and video recording up to 1080p at 60fps. Neither chipset supports AV1 encoding.

The first devices to incorporate Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 are expected to be released within the next year.
