How you can build an outdoor fireplace, if the harsh winter temperatures have you trapped inside, it's time to install an outdoor fireplace.
You can choose different sizes, designs and capacities and you can be sure that it is a great investment. An outdoor fireplace is perfect for enjoying the patio and hosting another great party without the risk of frost.
Outdoor fireplace
The fireplace is functional, of course, but even when it's not lit, it adds a lot to our outdoor space. Day or night, you can find us here eating, relaxing or chatting.
MATERIALS
- three 2x56x8 studs
- wooden stakes
- six bags of all-purpose gravel
- a sheet of wire mesh
- eight 2-foot rebar
- galvanized wire
- sixteen bags of concrete
- magnesium float
- concrete mixing tub
- flat shovel
Procedure
Step 1: The concrete base
Measure the area of your base and stake all four corners, using a square to ensure the corners are exactly 90 degrees.
Excavate a few inches and level the base area with a shovel until it is level, smooth and compact.
Measure and cut the outside shapes using smooth 2×6 boards.
Add 1.5-2 inches of rock to the bottom of the foundation area.
Following the instructions on the bag, mix and pour the cement until the base area is full. Allow the concrete to cure for the time specified on the bag
Step 2: The Cinderblock Base
Calculate the width of your cinder block foundation once installed.
Mix your masonry mortar following the instructions on the bag.
Work quickly to place the cement blocks, making sure there is mortar along the entire length of the base and between each block.
Allow the blocks to dry in place for 48 hours.
Step 3. The Cinder Block Heat Shield
Due to the opening of the finished fireplace, the cinder blocks are there only to block direct exposure to the wood surround, which will be added later.
Place the fireplace insert in place, making sure it is exactly centered on the base of the cinder block.
Add the mortar to obtain the correct height. Let it dry for 24 hours.
Step 4: The Wood Structure
Measure and construct the front wall of the structure. The internal structure of the fireplace will likely be exposed to the elements year-round, even after the liner is in place.
For this reason, it is recommended to use pressure-treated lumber to build the structure.
Step 5: The roof
No one lives in this chimney, so don't feel like the roof should be like a house or even a shed.
That said, you want the structure to be fairly protected from rain, so be careful to keep the edges tight and overlapping materials properly.
Step 6: The “concrete formed by board” planks
The concrete liner holds up well in extreme weather conditions and is fire resistant, making it the perfect choice for an outdoor fireplace.
Plus, it looks a lot like the plank-formed concrete planks in our inspiration photos.
You can place it traditionally, but for this tutorial we'll put it in table form, with the back side facing out (the front side has indented text along the length).the edge).
Step 8: (Optional) paint the fireplace
