Even your shoes deserve a little fun! Instead of hiding them away, organize them on a DIY shoe rack dedicated to them, with a playful shape of… a shoe.

The overall structure of this shoe rack is very simple: two boot-shaped side panels are connected by six ramin dowel rods. For a complete home transformation, explore our home improvement collection for more project ideas.

How to Build the Shoe Rack
The Shaped Supports
The boot template that forms the two sides of the rack is easy to make. The grid squares are 25 mm per side. You can lengthen the design to accommodate an extra pair of dowels. These rods are paired to create sturdy shelves for your shoes. The rod length is given as 840 mm, but it can be shorter (or slightly longer) if space requires.
To make the two shaped supports, enlarge the gridded template (shown in the photo) and transfer it onto a pine board (plywood also works). If you work carefully, you can fit both templates on one board by flipping one upside down.
Once your rack is built, style it with your favorite pairs and consider adding a rug or wall decor from our collections to complete the look.
Blind Holes
Drill blind holes (not through-holes) in the side panels to insert the dowel rods securely. This keeps the structure clean and professional-looking. For lighting near your new shoe rack, browse our lighting and outdoor lighting options.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I adjust the size of this rack?
Yes! The template can be scaled up or down. The rod length can be shortened to fit narrow spaces, or you can add more dowels for extra shoe capacity. For larger projects, consider our sheds or greenhouses for additional storage.
What type of wood is best?
Pine is affordable and easy to cut, but plywood or any hardwood works well. For a durable finish, use acrylic primer and enamel paint. Pair your finished rack with nightstands or dressers for a cohesive bedroom look.
How many shoes can it hold?
With six dowel rods, you can store up to 6 pairs of shoes (one pair per rod). Extend the design to hold more. Organize your entryway further with storage benches or bookcases.
Can I paint it any color?
Absolutely! Use acrylic enamel paint in any color to match your decor. For a modern touch, try a bold hue and complement with curtains or mirrors from our store.
Is this project beginner-friendly?
Yes, with basic woodworking skills and tools (jigsaw, drill, sandpaper), it's a great weekend project. For more DIY inspiration, explore our outdoor patio furniture and BBQ grills collections.
