Step 2: Build a base
Once your concrete base has cured for 24 hours or more, you will need to build a level base on which to build your firebox.
For those looking to enhance their space, we invite you to browse our Outdoor Tables collection, featuring carefully curated options that suit a variety of styles and preferences.
I suggest a 4" solid block for this purpose.

Next you will build your firebox to the size you have chosen using fire bricks and fire cement from your local masonry supply.

Step 3: Build the throat
Once you have completed the firebox and allowed the mortar to set, it is time to place your block around it and build the "throat" (where the firebox is reduced to the size of your combustion liners).

Step 4: Build the flower
This is the easy part. Place your first liner in a bed of mortar, then slide a shot block over it.
Repeat until you reach the desired height. And keep it plumb.

Step 5: Place the stone
This is the fun part. By now you have chosen your stone and the style of the stone. I recommend building your stone veneer 6-8" thick to accommodate a variety of shapes and sizes.
Place each stone on a bed of mortar and fill the spaces between and behind the stones with mortar. Once the mortar dries (1-4 hrs.) Scrape it away from the joints and plan them.
Follow the principles of 1 stone over 2 and 2 stones over 1 for best results.
