Three Versions for Different Settings

In modern style, the footrest has been replaced by other relaxation systems, but if you miss having a support to lift your legs when sitting in an armchair, it’s not complicated to build one. We present it in three DIY versions for different settings. The gold finish and capitonné cushion in various shades of purple of this pouf (which can also be made in other variants) inspired visions of harems with Scheherazade telling her caliph Shahriyar a thousand and one tales to save her life. Beyond these fantasies, this is a very simple DIY construction, within everyone’s reach. The only phase that would require particular bricolage skill is making the cushion (cutting, sewing, stuffing, etc.), which we think is best left to a good upholsterer. Armchair Pouf
Have the cushion made (or make it yourself if you know how to use scissors, needle, and thread), approximately 12/15 cm thick. Cut a base from a 15 mm MDF sheet that is 30 mm longer and wider than the cushion dimensions. Also cut four strips, 30 mm longer than the sides of the base and half the thickness of the cushion (millimeter more or less doesn’t matter, but it’s important that the strips are all equal), beveling the short sides at 45°. Attach the four strips to the sides of the base (glue and small nails or screws countersunk and filled, blind dowels, flat biscuits, etc., as you know and can) and complete the box by applying small feet or wheels under the four corners using the system best suited to the chosen type. Add a touch of style with our lighting collection to highlight your new pouf.
Storage Pouf
Our stool would already be finished at this point, but MDF isn’t known for its aesthetics, so to make it acceptable to the eye as well as comfortable for the feet, we need to proceed with careful finishing, which obviously must be done in harmony with the upholstery and finish of the cushion, themselves chosen to match the rest of the room’s decor. In the following steps, we see it in three more or less luxurious versions. Whatever finish you choose, remember that MDF requires no preparation. Pair your pouf with a rug for a cozy feel.
Variety of Feet
Choose from wooden legs, metal hairpin legs, or casters for mobility. For a glam look, go for gold or brass finishes. For a modern touch, try black metal. Find matching outdoor patio furniture for a cohesive space.
Assembly and Embellishment
After attaching the feet, sand any rough edges and apply paint or stain. For a tufted cushion, use a button kit and strong thread. Add trim or fringe for extra flair. Complete your room with curtains and wall decor.
