How to Clean a Bathroom with Homemade Recipes, one assumes that everyone knows how to clean a bathroom, but, having raised a couple of children, I know firsthand that humans are NOT born knowing how to perform this vital task, and that it takes a good amount of determination and repetition to master all the necessary skills.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), due to the nature of this room's use, there are many opportunities to practice and master the art of cleaning your bathroom.

The toilet

The toilet is not JUST the toilet bowl. No. The toilet is the rim, it is the seat, it is the bottom of the seat and the lid, both sides. Don't forget the outside of the bowl either! Defying all logic, the bottom of the toilet bowl is usually the thickest part. At the risk of being graphic, urine tends to splash over the sides, leaving colorful residue right where it drips to the floor.

I use a commercial cleaner for the inside of the bowl, because I like the design of the bottle that can reach all the way to the hidden part inside the rim, but for the outside I use a bath spray that I make myself:

Ingredients:

• 2 Tablespoons of liquid soap
• 2 Teaspoons baking soda (NOT baking soda)
• 3 Tablespoons of bleach

Material:

• One empty, clean 32 oz spray bottle with the label removed.

Indications:

• Mix baking soda in 2 cups of warm water until dissolved. Pour into an empty 32 oz spray bottle and add bleach, soap, and enough cold tap water to fill the spray bottle.
• Shake the bottle before each use, spray the surface generously and let it sit for a few minutes before cleaning.

The sink

Approach the sink with the same meticulousness as the toilet. They have many nooks and crannies, don't leave a single part untouched!

In addition to the handles, spout, soap dish and the bowl itself (inside and out), unscrew the drain to remove hair and dirt.

Purchasing a suitable brush (long, stiff and narrow enough to dip into the drain) is definitely worth it, and will reduce your need for cleaning chemicals.

When the water begins to drain slowly, pour about 1/8 cup each of the washing soda and citric acid down the drain.

I'll let it lather for a while, which will loosen the dirt, then I'll wash and rinse it.

If necessary, I will repeat it. Even when the drain was completely blocked, I never had to use anything stronger. You will notice that if you clean the drain regularly (before it slows down), you won't even need to use these mild chemicals. Your drain will no longer become clogged.

The bathtub and knobs

I'm all for bath salts, melts, bombs and other bath additives that feel great but then leave a horrible mess in the tub.

The most important time-saving tip is to rinse the tub (and preferably wipe it with a cloth or paper towel) immediately after use. I originally created this recipe for the oven, but it works in the tub too:

Ingredients:

• 5 Tablespoons of borax
• 2/3 Cup white vinegar (distilled) or 4 teaspoons citric acid
• 3 Tablespoons of liquid soap
• Baking soda

Materials:

• 32oz clean spray bottle

Indications:

• Dissolve the borax in a cup of very hot water. Add the vinegar or citric acid and the liquid soap. Pour into the spray bottle and fill to the top with water.
• To clean the bathtub, spray all surfaces liberally and then sprinkle liberally with baking soda. It is difficult to spray vertical surfaces, so you can putPut some baking soda on a cloth and rub it on the surface to make a paste. Leave this paste overnight (or an hour or two, or less, depending on the amount of embedded oil), then scrub and clean with warm soapy water.
• As always, don't forget the details! Nozzle, shower head, valve, drain, etc. Spray all corners with bleach-based spray (recipe in step 1) to kill mold.

The shower curtain

Shower curtains (or glass doors) will quickly become covered with white mineral deposits. The easiest way to deal with this is to clean it after each use, which is easier than it sounds. All you need to do is give the curtain a quick spray, or if you have a clear glass door, use a squeegee to wipe away the water and soap residue.

Materials:

• 4 teaspoons of citric acid
• 1 teaspoon of liquid soap
• Distilled water

Indications:

• Dissolve citric acid in 1 cup of warm (distilled) water. Add liquid soap, pour it into a clean 32 oz spray bottle and fill the bottle to the top with cold (distilled) water.

If you didn't perform this maintenance and you find yourself with a dirty shower curtain, your only option is to remove it and scrub it by hand or put it in the machine (cold, gentle cycle) with some white towels. and a little soap and bleach. It may come out a little wrinkled, but it should straighten out after you hang it again, and it will be perfectly clean!

Floor

My bathroom is so small that I actually clean it with my bathroom spray (recipe in step 1), but you can clean yours using this recipe:

• 1/4 Cup of liquid soap
• 1/4 Cup of borax
• 1 Gallon of hot water

Indications:

• A bucket and mop! Pay special attention to the corners and the area around the toilet.

Don't forget the walls!

Use hot soapy water and baking soda to remove most of the mold. Baking soda is an excellent cleaner. Try this great recipe to make your own baking soda bathroom cleaner:

• A teaspoon of liquid soap
• A cup of baking soda
• Several drops of an essential oil (citrus, rosemary, lavender, mint, eucalyptus, etc.)
• Enough water to create a paste

Indications:

• Mix 1 part bleach with 2 parts water. Transfer the solution to a spray bottle
• Spray the area with the bleach solution and let it dry
• Spray a second time and scrub with a brush
• Rinse and repeat if necessary until you have removed the mold
• Replace the caulk if you cannot remove all the mold

All the other things

Don't forget to wash all towels, rags, bath mats, etc. Also clean the towel bar, toilet paper holder or any other built-in accessories.

• The trash can, toilet brush, and any other accessories you have in the bathroom should also be cleaned.
• Empty your medicine cabinet and throw away obsolete or unwanted medications, but dispose of them responsibly!
• Clean the inside of the medicine cabinet before replacing any items you want to keep.

Ingredients:

• 1 teaspoon of borax
• 2 Cups of water
• 1 teaspoon of liquid soap
• 1/4 Cup of rubbing alcohol
• 1/4 Cup of ammonia
• 1/2 Cup of white vinegar (distilled)

Instructions:

Dissolve borax in a cup of hot water. Add the remaining cup of cold water, combine all other ingredients and pour into a clean 32 oz spray bottle.

To use, spray the window and wipe with crumpled newspaper or paper towel.
