TOOLS
- shovel

- Level level 48 or line level

MATERIALS
- Natural rocks (ideally rectangular, a platform will build a 3x10 foot wall)
- Coarse gravel, size 5-7 stone (approximately 1 cubic yard per 5 foot wall)
- Roll of floor blocking fabric, at least 4 feet wide.

- Establish the location of the retaining wall and excavate the bank approximately

Second: Make a base trench
Dig a footer about 2 feet wide and at least 8 inches deep. Make sure the bottom of your shoe is level using a line level or long stick level.

Third: Compact and loose soil
Be careful not to loosen dirt on the bottom of the shoe. Use a plate spreader or shovel to compact the soil if it is loose.

Fourth: Fill foot
Fill entire footing with coarse gravel, spread evenly and compact with a skid plate or shovel.

Fifth: Standing level
Level the top of the gravel base using a level or long line level. Smooth the surface with a garden rake and a plate trap.

Sixth: Place the first row of rocks
Lay the first row of boulders, placing the desired boulders facing outward.

Seventh: Place the second layer of Boulder
Continue with the second layer, making sure the wall moves slightly toward the edge. Ideally, the wall should angle back about 1/2 inch to 1 foot
Eighth: Place Landscape
Place ground blocking fabric on the back of the wall and on the ground bench. Make sure there is enough fabric at the top of the wall to cover the dirt.

Ninth: Fill the floor with the wall
Fill the space behind the wall and bench with coarse stone, stopping about 8" below the top of the wall. Cover the soil with the rest of the fabric and fill soil up to the wall.
