Tirokafteri is a Greek spread or dip made with roasted peppers and feta cheese, perfect for serving at a meze table. In Greece, tirokafteri is one of the most popular meze —appetizers meant to be shared.
To make this recipe, you only need feta cheese and roasted peppers —which you can buy already roasted or roast at home following our roasted pepper recipe —plus oil, vinegar, chili pepper, and cayenne for a touch of spice. It's as easy as blending all the ingredients together and serving, or storing it in the refrigerator.
Optionally, you can also add a little Greek yogurt to reduce the spiciness and give it a creamier texture. If you do add it, two tablespoons should be enough for the quantities indicated in this recipe.
Tirokafteri is most commonly served with pita bread or toast, although we love it as an accompaniment to grilled meats or accompanied by vegetable crudités .

Tirokafteri ingredients
- 150g of feta cheese (we saved some for decoration)
- 100g of roasted peppers
- 1 dried cayenne pepper, crushed to taste
- 1 teaspoon of chopped chili pepper
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of red wine vinegar
- 1 small clove of garlic
- 1 tablespoon of chopped parsley

How to make tirokafteri
First, place in a blender 140g of feta cheese, 100g of roasted peppers, crushed dried cayenne to taste, 1 teaspoon of chopped chili pepper, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of red wine vinegar and 1 small peeled garlic clove.

We blend these ingredients until we obtain a smooth mixture. Once we have this texture, we transfer the mixture to a bowl.

We garnish the tirokafteri with 1 tablespoon of chopped parsley and the remaining 10g of crumbled feta cheese on top. We serve it immediately with toast, nachos, or vegetable sticks for dipping.
