In this article we will teach you how to reuse that old trumpet and make a lamp easily, which you can use in your bedroom.
I was helping my brother clean out his garage when I came across this old trumpet. I did some research online and discovered that it was made in the 1930s as a student model.
I felt bad seeing it so forgotten, so I had to give it a little new life.
Necessary:
- Trumpet
- Lamp
- Paracord
- Cotton ball
- Rubber chair legs
- Hot glue
- Multimeter

#1: String the trumpet

- You will need to run a power cord through the trumpet and to do this you will need paracord and a cotton ball.
- Separate a section of paracord just enough to run the length of the speaker. Tie the cotton ball to the end of one strand of the inner paracord and begin feeding it through the trumpet at the end where the mouthpiece goes.
- Use compressed air to blow the cotton ball through the horn. Once you're done, you'll have a threaded trumpet.
- In the picture you can see the valves removed, but leave them in when you do this.
- Now tie the paracord bead to the section of paracord you separated. You should be working at the end of the bell. Take an all-purpose cleaner (any soapy liquid will do) and lubricate the paracord.
- Pull the gutted paracord back through the horn until it comes out the other end.
#2: Prepare the base

- I bought this lamp new, with a lampshade. Take it apart so you can get to the cord. Be sure to use a multimeter to identify the negative and positive wires so you reconnect correctly.
- Take a rubber chair leg and drill a hole in it. Place the drilled leg on the base shaft. Cut out another leg and place it on top of the shaft so that the trumpet has two points of contact along the shaft.
#3: Pull the cable

- Tie the paracord to the free end of the lamp cord on the bell side of the horn. Lubricate the cables with the same soapy liquid and start pulling it. This will take some effort. He helped me move the valves a little while I pulled the cable.
- Just be sure to use a constrictor knot when tying the cable. You don't want it to fall mid-trumpet.
#4: Prepare the top and assemble

- Drill a hole in the switch housing so that it fits snugly over the end of the trumpet mouthpiece. Reassemble the lamp components and fit the base onto the speaker.
- Use hot glue to reattach the felt to the bottom of the base.
- Make sure your new trumpet lamp is dry before plugging it in or turning it on.
- I would recommend using a larger base than the one I show. As it is now, it can tip over quite easily. I will add a small wooden circle to the base to make it more stable. Update: I added a wooden base. You can see it in the photos for the first step.
