‘Child-free’ is quite a common term.

It is a term that is becoming more popular these days, especially among people who have decided to forego having children and instead focus on other goals in their lives. I’m not here to debate the legitimacy of this choice because we have no right to impose our beliefs on others, and whatever someone chooses to do with their life is their business. After all, caring for children is difficult, and no one should be forced to have children for one reason or another. It doesn’t work out for either the child or the parents. However, this does not imply that everyone understands what the term “child-free” means.

As you will see, some people have the wrong idea about this term and believe that simply stating that they are child-free means that they will never have to interact with children. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not particularly fond of children, at least not most of them. However, I am aware that there are children in this world with whom I must interact with and be respectful towards. Isn’t that what we call basic human decency? Apparently, some people do not understand this simple concept and believe they can treat their family members badly simply because they do not want children in the future.

But we first need to know who the participants are in this story.

And why the brother isn’t willing to talk to his cousin.

Apparently, he just ignores the cousin which is quite childish.

The kid was clearly hurt by this behaviour which led OP to talk it out with his brother.

And that we get hit with this statement.

To be fair, these appear to me to be childish ramblings. The teenager clearly does not understand what the word means. Or, if he does, he is choosing to ignore it on purpose in order to justify his behaviour towards his cousin. He clearly means no harm, but his actions are causing harm to those around him anyway. I believe that the poster of this story was correct in correcting him. He may throw a tantrum right now, but he will understand in time. Then he’ll look back and laugh at himself for being so stupid. However, we are not in a position to judge whether he wants children or not. Some people do know when they are young, but that is not our concern.

I would have to agree that this is quite immature.

These are completely different things.

I do hope that the kid starts ignoring the brother as well.

I do believe that parents need to be involved in this.
