Learn How to Install Cool LED Lights on Your Bike Wheels, this is LED oversaturation and ridiculously impractical, but it sure is bright and colorful, why not?
For this project you will need access to a 3D printer, but the parts are small and any printer should be able to handle them.
Step 1: What you need
- RGB LED Strips: I'm using the 2 meter strips, which are enough to go around my wheels and have a few extra inches at the end.
- 3D Printer: Any printer and material should work fine.
- Strong duct tape: Duct tape would probably work too.
- AA batteries: A dozen
- Scissors: To cut excess LED strips
Step 2: Design your clip
I modeled this clip for my bike's rims, which are "Deep V" style and therefore the angle of the bottom piece is quite acute.

- To modify this for your own bike, stretch the bottom two pieces.
- When you are satisfied, go to Design > Download for 3D printing to get the STL.
I recommend making a few variations to try so you can find the one that fits the quickest.

Step 3: Print!
Prepare your 3D printer the way you need for small parts and print it. Don't worry about the material.
Be sure to print a few extra, as they might break when installing them on the bike wheels.
Step 4: Installation
Attach all the clips to your rims by sliding them onto the spoke and sliding it down the rim.
Lay out the LED strips, starting with the first LED closest to the controls, working your way around. If you have excess, cut the strip with a pair of scissors, cutting between the copper pads.
Attach the battery to the radios with tape. I admit, it's not the most permanent solution. There is probably a much better way to do this.
If using two strips on one wheel, make sure the batteries balance each other by being on opposite sides.
Step 5: Drive and enjoy!
Turn around!
I'm still testing this, so there is room for improvement. One strip broke after leaning the bike against a table, so the strips would need to be reinforced at each end of the controller. Some heat shrinkage or electrical tape should help a lot.
