Pallet Wooden Elevator Support for a Laptop, with the purpose of raising the laptop screen to a level that could be looked at for long periods of time without pain.
Anyway, enjoy and we welcome any questions...
Step 1: Tools needed

You can probably get away with doing this project with a lot fewer tools, but this is what I used.
- Pallet
- Rubber mallet (to decouple the pallet platform)
- Circular saw
- Orbital sander and 60, 180 and 240 grit pads
- Clamps
- Pencil
- Square
- Drill with 8 mm bit
- Wooden dowels
- Wood varnish
- Brush to apply the Varnish
Step 2: Recover a pallet

For this project, I claimed a pallet from the local builders yard.
Step 3: Disassemble the platform

You just have to hit the wood to separate them from their nails.
Step 4: Cut the pieces

Take 4 or 5 of the pallet slats and measure the following pieces:
- 4x 14″
- 8x 9″
Make cuts using a circular saw or hand saw and keep the cuts loose (more on this later)
Remember to wear safety glasses as wood chips will fly everywhere.
Step 5: Sanding

Using an orbital sander, sand all the pieces starting with 60 grit and then 180 grit and finally 240 grit. You can do this by hand instead but it will take much longer
Step 6: Pasting

The 4 longest pieces will make the top and the 8 shorter pieces will make the sides (4 in each)
Arrange the pieces into 3 groups (left, middle and right side) working on 1 group at a time apply the wood glue and hold together while drying
Step 7: Cut the slope on the sides

Take the two side sides and pinch them together so they are flush on top.
It doesn't matter which one it is, but decide which end you want to be the forward and which end you want to be the reverse. Measure 5 inches down from the top and mark it with a pencil.
Take a piece of wood that you know is straight and place one end on the mark you just made, place the other end on the bottom left corner and make a mark. This is the angle we will be cutting. To cut straight, I measured the distance between the blade on my circular saw and the edge of the saw frame, which turns out to be just under 1.5 inches. Now I'm going to make another mark on the wood 1.5 inches above the previous marks
Place the scrap wood in place using the two new marks and then clamp everything securely on a workbench ready to cut, we will use the scrap wood as a guide. Make the cut using that wood as a guide. You should now have the sides completed, you can sand the newly cut sides again to match the smoothness of the rest of the pieces
Step 8: Dry Fit

Using your hands to hold them, dry fit the pieces to make sure they all line up. In my case I had to make some extra cuts and edges where they weren't even, one of the planks I used for the top board was much thinner than the rest so the fit was uneven.
Step 9: Join the top and side pieces

Now that you've made sure everything fits together it's time to put these pieces together, I was tempted to just glue them back together but I decided to use a dowel pattern and secure the pieces with them.
Step 10: Creating the non-slip

To stop the laptop from sliding, I attached two small pieces of wood to the front with glue. You can cut them from one of the pieces of wood you have left from originally cutting the main pieces.
I cut mine to be 2cm each
Measure 5cm from each side of the main frame and make a mark, then position and glue the two lip pieces. Hold these in place with clamps and wait for them to dry.
Step 11: Apply varnish and finish!

To finish this project I applied a light matte interior wood stain, although it was said to apply two coats as a minimum, I found I was more than happy with 1 coat.
And that's all!
