Zapiekanka is a Polish specialty consisting of a loaf of bread split in half, topped with mushrooms, onions, cheese, and drizzled with ketchup. It's a common street food in Poland, often eaten as a snack or quick meal. Pair it with the Langos Hungarian Fried Bread for a complete meal.
Preparing this kind of Polish panini or pizza is very easy: simply spread sautéed onions and mushrooms on half a baguette, cover with grated cheese, and bake until the cheese melts. To make this recipe, we have used an individual baguette to be enjoyed by two people.If you use a large baguette, you can cut it in half and you will get 4 portions if you double the rest of the ingredients.We cut the mushrooms into slices, so that the bite is more pleasant and if you prefer, so that they fit well on the bread, you can remove a little crumb to make a space. Zapiekanka ingredients
- 1 small onion
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 200 g mushrooms
- Salt
- Ground black pepper
- 1 baguette
- 60 g grated cheese
- Ketchup
- 1 tablespoon chopped chives

How to make zapiekanka
First of all, we preheat the oven to 200 °C.Sauté 1 small onion in a pan with 1 tablespoon of butter for 3 minutes.We add 200 g of clean and sliced mushrooms and cook for 8-10 more minutes, until they lose their water.Season with salt and pepper to taste.
