How to make your own shard light for your bedroom, a great project to illuminate your desk in an elegant and minimalist way, it is plexiglass a material that is commonly used for lighting work and in this case with a strip of LED lights and these pieces you can make something beautiful. This project was published on the YouTube DIY Perks channel where the step by step is explained.

Materials:
- A 12mm thick piece of MDF
- A 12×12 cm square of 1 mm thick hardwood
- A sheet of sheet metal
- Two pieces of plexiglass
- A 12v DC adapter, two short pieces of wire and a decent length of two thin cables (a cable from an old pair of headphones is perfect for this).

Tools:
- A fine toothed saw.
- A fine knife.
- A metal ruler, a pencil and a right angle ruler
a clamp. - A little wood glue and a brush to apply it, and also a little silicone-based glue via a glue gun will also be suitable.
- You will also need a soldering iron and soldering iron.
- Wire strippers and some scissors.
- A drill.
- And finally, a little varnish for finishing.

Procedure:
#1. The first thing you should do is draw a diagonal line that divides the piece of wood in two. From this line, draw two parallel lines 2.5 cm from the midline.

Use the fine saw to cut those two outer lines, and you should get the following shape.

#2. Give it a little sanding to eliminate imperfections. Next, place the piece of wood on the MDF wood, and align it with the corner.

Use a pencil to mark the obtuse angles of the hardwood on the MDF.

Then use your right-angle ruler to draw a square using those marks, and divide the square diagonally.

Cut out the square and then cut it in half along the diagonal line so that you have two triangular pieces.

These pieces will form the supports of the base.

#3. Now place the plexiglass pieces on the hardwood shape and decide where you would like to place them.

Once decided, use a knife or a thin pencil to mark the positions.

#4. Now it's time to score along your traces with the thin knife. You should hold a ruler over the shape of the hardwood, being careful to position the edge of the ruler along one of the marks you made.
You can use a piece of disposable wood underneath to avoid damaging the table.

Be careful not to slip and go over the marks made.

Once you are sure you have cut the wood, release the clamp and move the ruler to the next stroke.
Once you have finished making the two long edges, carefully remove it with the knife. Now you can remove the wood and be left with a slot for your plexiglass. Use the knife to clean any edges.

Follow the same procedure for the next slot.

#5. Now use a little wood glue to glue the supports to the hardwood shape we have. It is recommended to use a clamp to hold the pieces in place while drying. Next, we cut two pieces of MDF wood to fill the sides and glue them in place.

Now it's time to cut some sheet metal for the sides. You can usually cut veneer with a thin knife and a ruler.

Recommendation: If the plating is very strong and at the time of cutting, it is poor. I recommend using a sharp kitchen knife that has a slight curve.
Once you finish cutting the veneer, use a knife to score the veneer into sections that correspond to the corners of your base.

You don't need to cut it completely, but enough so that it bends easily at those points.
After making sure they fit properly, coat the inside with wood glue and make sure the edges in particular are well coated.

Once finished, let it dry for two hours. After waiting for it to dry, carefully place the veneer on the base. Now use the iron, without water, and iron carefully on the sheet.
This melts the glue little by little and glues the veneer finely.

Let it cool and then sand the overlapping pieces. You can use P150 sandpaper to avoid damaging the finish.

Once you have finished sanding, add a little varnish for the finish, this will make the wood shiny. Don't put on too much, you'll need to give it at least five coats to get a glossy finish.

#6. Now it's time to work on the LED, and the first thing to do is cut the strip two sets of three.

Due to the way the strips are designed, you can do this and have two functional complements. Always be sure to cut along the designated lines, between the copper pads.
Turn on the soldering iron and while it is heating, prepare the cables by exposing their ends using wire strippers.

Add some tin to the ends, and also add some to the patches of the strips. Then solder the wires to the pads.

Cut the wires shorter and prepare them again by removing the ends and adding a little tin. Then solder the wires to the second strip.

Be sure to maintain the correct polarity.

#7. Now prepare the two main cables, again, by stripping and adding solder. This can now be soldered to one of the two strips.
Take note of the polarity for later, in this case I must remember that yellow is positive and white is negative. Check that they work well by connecting them to a 12v power source.

Now it's time to glue them to the bottom of the fragments. So find a way to prop the fragments upright. In this case, some fastening clips with tissue paper were used so that the fragments would not mark.

Now add a few drops of glue between each LED. Now add a few drops of glue between each LED. For this step you have to use a glue that has a little volume and sticks the plastic well.
You can also use silicone-based glue.

After applying the glue, place the fragments on top and let them dry.

While it is drying, cut two pieces of MDF wood and glue them inside the base. Place something for the fragments to stick to later, but make sure it leaves enough room for the LED strips.

Make a small hole in the back of the base for the two core threads to pass through.

Once everything is dry, tie a knot in the wire and loop it through the hole, then carefully push your fragments through the slots.

Apply a little glue just above the LEDs, and press them against the supports you added earlier. Now it's just a matter of making sure the shards are upright and dry. You can use a right angle ruler to check if it is correctly placed.

All you need to finish is to connect it to the 12v DC adapter, and voila your project is finished!
