Our helpful review

I strongly recommend this, incredible value/price ratio.

My home wifi speeds went from ~10 Mbps to the 150 Mpbs range after replacing my garbage old router with this unit. I don't think my service provider offers much more than that for my subscription level. So it's utterly freeing, I'm confident I'm getting the highest throughput available to me, and I now know my old router was a huge bottleneck on my network. I have nothing in the same class to compare it with, but I really liked is this router, it looks tight, it performs great, and it's very easy/basic to manage via the Nighthawk mobile app.

Easily changed my DNS settings to Cloudflare for small added privacy and security benefits, and was able to set up a guest network and make other adjustments within minutes. I don't know if it's necessarily better than other quality routers in its price range, but in my case it's a very effective device and has totally unlocked my home network and wifi potential at a very low cost. It also looks very cool and has an on/off switch so you don't have to unplug this one to cycle it, not that I've had to. A+ router

Our helpful review

I had other brands before that included LinkSys, Apple, and others. Obviously the Apple no longer exists. I bought this one based on reviews and was not disappointed. This was the easiest setup I’ve had so far. The range is better than what I had before and connecting a slave/range extending unit was easy as pie. I’ve had to change a few things since I got it and the GUI is very intuitive. I do not use this for gaming, but it has a turbo mode for this purpose. Highly recommended.

Our helpful review

I love my eero system , I’ve rarely had any issues

The coverage is grea. With my background though, I’m upset with the lack of user features (at least that aren’t paywalled). We shouldn’t have to pay to see the basics and have things such as parental controls. I’m not sure why, as a mesh system, we don’t have the ability to steer devices to specific channels or pods.

I’m not sure of the extent of what can be done if you pay the fee for the extras though, because I won’t be doing that. That being said, if you just want a reliable WiFi connection and not much more, it’s worth the money when on a sale.

I did see suggestions of airflow in other reviews and ended up putting 1in runner feet on each corner of the nodes. They don’t seem to get overheated at all.

Our helpful review

My wife and I are not super literate when it comes to some of this new tech, the videos to this router and wifi extender say it's super easy to set up and they were not lying we had the old router repaced and this new cheaper and much improved one set up and our whole smart house back online in about 3 hours total thats with 18 different items attached to our network.

The TP-Link AXE5400 Archer 75 6E is a great router we got much better and stabler coverage throughout our house. 1976 Fox and Jacobs 4 bedroom about 2,300 sq ft. The routers signal strength didnt quite reach the farthest TV or the back yard we only had intermittent signal strength of 2 so we added a TP-Link AX3000 Mesh WIFI extender about 2/3rds of the distance across the house to the theater room and (BAMM) wifi signal strength 5 all the way to the farthest corner of the house and most of the back yard.

Overall I am very happy with the price, performance and ease of setting up of this equipment. The TP Link Teather App works well and as described too. Very happy with this purchase and it is a significant improvement over what we were dealing with from our 5 yr old Netgear Nighthawk S router we had previously. I should have upgraded sooner.

Our helpful review

This router replaces my ASUS AC88U which was having some difficulties in maintaining speeds over Wi-Fi. Continually required rebooting to keep the download speed (500+Mbps) frequently dropping to 250 Mbps or less. So far, the AX5400 has maintained Wi-Fi speeds consistently and well over 500 Mbps. The unit has a smaller footprint than the AC88U and same GUI so setup was quick and simple. Overall I’m impressed with the performance.

Our helpful review

I'm a big fan of ASUS hardware, and they did not disappoint with this router. Setup took all of about 15 minutes. The app is handy for monitoring usage and devices.

Worked perfectly for a small apartment. There were always multiple devices connected and we never experienced any throttling. Both a PC and Xbox were hard wired the whole time - almost no upload/download loss from our advertised internet speed (300MB/s).

Some clarifications:

  1. The 5GHz wifi has great speed but limited range. The 2.4GHz wifi has better range but worse signal.
  2. Your internet provider gave you a modem, which you plug into the wall. You plug the modem (via ethernet cable) into this router, and it creates wifi you can connect to.
  3. It also has additional ethernet ports for hardwired devices such as a gaming PC or console.

Highly recommend. You should send back the wifi "pods" your internet provider gave you and use this instead.

Our helpful review

Our neighborhood finally got access to fiber internet and my trusty AC1750 router couldn't keep up with the new 940 Mbps up/down speeds. I was able to set up the AXE-7800 in just a few minutes and the performance is fantastic. (I did buy a Cat 6 cable to connect the fiber modem to the router instead of using the included Cat 5e cable). The screenshot showing 874 Mbps down/823 up is from my laptop separated from the router by 20 ft and 3 walls. Even in the furthest reaches in the basement of my house, I'm getting 300 down/150 up, which is more than adequate for my needs. I hope this router will be reliable over the long term, but so far I'm very happy.

Additional thoughts after a week:

The Wifi 6E feature is less useful than anticipated. I'm basically only using Wifi 6 because the range drop-off for the 6 GHz band is pretty harsh. Close the router, 6E performance is fantastic. 10 feet away with a direct line of sight, I get my full 940/940 speeds on Wifi. But anywhere more than 15 feet away from the router and if there are walls in the way, I'm getting better performance on the 5Ghz/2.4Ghz bands. My laptop can't even detect the 6Ghz connection if I'm in the basement. I guess 6E would be useful in an environment with too much interference in the 5Ghz/2.4Ghz bands but it doesn't really do too much for me. I don't think it's the fault of this router, just a limitation of the technology.

Second, the ethernet port:

I found that my fiber modem and this router aren't able to communicate at 2.5 Gb through the high speed LAN port. Maybe it's my fiber modem's fault, but the router/modem only used it as a 1 gb LAN port. Thankfully, this router has WAN aggregation where it lets you plug in two 1 Gb ethernet cables into the router. It was pretty easy to set up and it seems to be better, especially handling concurrent traffic up and down.

I got it after reading raving reviews. I needed a new travel router as my old hootoo router became outdated and was happy to pick this one up. It’s easy to set up. I mainly use it as a travel router. In a hotel I can just plug it in and connect it either to the hotel WiFi or Ethernet and all my devices are instantly connected.

No more setting up each fire tv or the kids devices. The interface is modern and smooth. I will dive in and learn how to set up VPN. A bonus is that it’s really small. The pictures may make you think it’s a size of a home modem, but it’s not it’s much smaller. Really well built too.

Our helpful review

Some background for context: My last Nighthawk router was the R6700 back in 2016 or so. It was perfect for our home internet needs. We have a pretty full smart home: Thermostat, cameras, lightbulbs, plugs, multiple game systems, laptops, tablets, phones, home streaming via NAS on Plex. The old router lasted 7 years of heavy use and finally started dying.

After searching for a solution that would work for our setup and weighing what we needed vs. what was available, the Nighthawk RAXE300 (on paper) was the perfect solution. The number of connections, speed, and addition of WiFi 6E all looked great.

I began setup of the new router by plugging it in and renaming the wireless broadcast ID's identical to the old router. The idea was: I can plug in my network cables, have the new router up and running, shutdown and disconnect the old router, and everything would essentially fail-over the the new Nighthawk. It worked perfectly.

How to Choose a Smart Wi-Fi Router

When selecting a smart Wi-Fi router for your smart home, consider the following factors:

  1. Wi-Fi Frequency Compatibility: Ensure the router supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies to accommodate smart home devices that operate on the 2.4-GHz band.
  2. Separate Network for Smart Home Devices: Consider setting up a separate network, such as a guest network, for your smart home devices to enhance security and minimize network congestion.
  3. Security Measures: Opt for routers with robust security features, such as the ability to set up a long, complex password and support for separate SSIDs on a single router.
  4. Stability and Performance: Look for routers that offer stable connections to the 2.4-GHz band, as most smart home devices operate on this frequency for better range and lower power consumption.
  5. Network Optimization: Consider routers that allow for easy network optimization and offer reliable Wi-Fi coverage, especially for larger properties or homes with Wi-Fi dead spots.

By considering these factors, you can select a smart Wi-Fi router that meets the specific requirements of your smart home setup, ensuring optimal performance, security, and stability for your connected devices.
