Procedure
Step 1: Create Pattern
Andrew first took 2 × 4 and created a grid pattern.
Step 2: Start nailing
Then he took four knotty alders and nailed them to the top of the 2×4s in the same grid pattern.
Step 3: Fill in grids
Then using a quarter-inch alder, he filled all the grids.
Step 4: Wood finishes
To give it a finished look, Andrew wrapped each grille around the wreath.
Step 5: Use hairspray
Then used a maple to alder spray stain and a coat of lacquer.
Step 6: Grain Patterns
Then he used an old, rusty water-based polish that went on and off. This is what made the knots and grain patterns appear.
Step 7: Finished project
After letting it dry for 30 minutes, it was lacquered once more.
And finally, here it ends with the ceiling fan in the center and the can lights installed along the outer edges of the hood. This room is waiting for rugs and vent covers!
