Today I want to tell you something that I love: how to make flower pots with recycled pallets. The truth is, I always liked decorating with wood, and a while ago I had wooden planters that left me wanting more. Then I discovered that with a few used pallets, you can do a lot of things. Among them, flower pots. And not only do they look good, they give a special touch to any space!
Why choose planters made from pallets?
First of all, because it's cheap. Second, because recycling seems like a good way to contribute something to the environment. And third, because, honestly, they look gorgeous. In my case, they helped me transform the terrace into a warmer corner, with a lot of natural vibes.
A while ago I had wooden flower pots and I have seen that many flower pots can be made by reusing pallets. I think they are a great way to decorate our terrace or garden at home.
In addition, the wood of the pallets has that rustic touch that goes well with the plants. And if you sand them well and give them a little varnish or paint, they will look like new.
What do you need to make them?
There is no need to complicate things. This is easier than it seems:
- A couple of pallets (whole ones, of course)
- Sandpaper (manual or electric, whatever you have)
- Saw and hammer or screwdriver
- Nails or screws
- Something to protect the wood (I used varnish)
- Plastic bags or cloth to put inside so that the wood is not ruined
- Land and plants, obviously
I did it with basic tools I had at home, nothing strange. Of course, you have to take the time to sand the wood well, because it tends to be somewhat rough.
Step by step: How to make a pallet planter
- I chose the fullest pallets I could find.
- I took them apart carefully (this part was the most difficult, I'm not going to lie to you).
- I sanded everything. It's not fun, but it makes a difference.
- I put together the box-type shape, like a planter.
- I put a plastic bag inside, with holes for the water to drain.
- I varnished the outside so it can withstand the rain.
- And I planted!
The best thing was seeing how everything turned out in the end. With very little effort, I made the space look more alive.
Styles of flower pots with pallets that you can create
Depending on the space and what you like, you can do them:
- Vertical: great if you don't have much space
- Box type: simple but functional
- Stepped: a little more work, but very attractive
- Pendants: if you dare, they look spectacular
I have seen that many flower pots can be made with reusing pallets, and each model has its charm. It allows you to play, try combinations and let your creativity fly.
Some tips I learned in the process
- Do not put the pots directly on the ground, they deteriorate faster.
- Always sand well, this way you avoid splinters.
- If you use paint, let it be for outdoors.
- Do not put very large plants if the box is small, they will drown.
- Check the screws from time to time, especially if they are outdoors.
I think they are a great way to decorate our terrace or garden at home, and even more so when you know that you did it yourself.
Alternatives: Buy or make your own planters?
Well, there are options. There are pages where they sell them ready-made, such as Terrazas con Pallets. They are very good, but of course, it is not the same as making one with your own hands. Personally, I enjoy it more when I know that I put something together, with time and desire.
A while ago I had wooden flower pots, and it happened to me that with pallets the result was more versatile. You can play with the sizes and adapt them better to the space you have.

Where can you put them?
- On the balcony, if you make a vertical one
- On the terrace, urban garden type
- In the patio, along with other plants
- Even inside the house, if you like green environments
I put them on the terrace and, honestly, it changed everything. Before it looked empty, lifeless. Now, with a couple of pots with pallets and some aromatic plants, it is nice to sit down for a while and have a drink.
In summary
If you are thinking of renewing your garden or decorating that empty corner of the house, the pallet plantersrecycledare an excellent option. Economical, pretty and with a lot of potential. And if you are also one of those who enjoy doing things with your hands, even better.

You don't need to be a carpenter or have a workshop, with desire and a little patience is enough. Go ahead, try it, and then tell me how it went.
