Tuna cannelloni are a wonderfully comforting dish that brings together tender pasta tubes, a savory tuna and tomato filling, and a silky béchamel blanket under golden, bubbling Parmesan. It is the kind of meal that feels special enough for a weekend dinner yet easy enough to pull together on a busy weeknight.

The filling combines flaky tuna packed in water, chopped hard-boiled eggs, and a generous spoonful of tomato sauce, while the homemade béchamel adds richness without being heavy. Everything bakes under the broiler until the top is beautifully browned and the cheese is melted just right.

How to Make Tuna Cannelloni Step by Step

1. Cook the cannelloni sheets

Start by cooking 12 cannelloni sheets according to the instructions on the package. This ensures they are pliable enough to roll without tearing.

2. Drain and reserve the pasta

Remove the sheets from the cooking water and place them on a damp cotton cloth. Cover with another damp cloth and set them aside while you prepare the filling.

3. Chop the hard-boiled eggs

Peel the hard-boiled eggs and chop them into small pieces. This will help them distribute evenly through the filling.

4. Make the filling

Mix the chopped eggs with 180 grams of tomato sauce and 350 grams of drained tuna packed in water. Set the filling aside.

5. Prepare the béchamel

Make the béchamel by putting 40 grams of butter in a skillet and, once melted, add 40 grams of wheat flour and cook for 2-3 minutes to toast it lightly. Gradually add 400 ml of whole milk and whisk constantly until the mixture thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste and add 1 pinch of nutmeg. Set aside.

6. Fill and roll the cannelloni

Place a portion of the filling on each pasta sheet and roll them up carefully so the filling does not escape from the sides.

Tips for the Best Tuna Cannelloni

Adapt the filling to your taste

This is a very versatile recipe that can be adapted according to your preferences. For example, you can add some chopped vegetables to the filling or even a few small shrimp if you are looking for a more festive dish.

Keep the pasta pliable

Reserving the cooked cannelloni sheets between damp cloths prevents them from drying out and cracking, making them easier to roll without tearing.

Perfect the béchamel

Toasting the flour briefly before adding the milk removes the raw flour taste and gives the béchamel a richer flavor. Whisk constantly as you pour in the milk to avoid lumps.
