Peach cobbler is a classic American dessert, a kind of peach cake that could not be easier or faster to make and that is absolutely finger-licking good. Instead of rolling out a dough, you simply layer melted butter, a quick flour and milk batter, and caramelized peaches in a baking dish, then let the oven work its magic.

The result is a buttery, tender peach cake with soft fruit bubbling underneath. This style of cobbler is especially popular in American baking, and it differs from the British version, which tops the fruit with a scone-like dough.

Use fresh peaches when they are in season, though canned peaches in syrup work too. If you go the canned route, just skip the step where the peaches are caramelized, and follow the rest of the recipe exactly the same way. The amounts here are calculated for a rectangular baking dish of about 25 x 20 cm.
Ingredients for Peach Cobbler
These quantities make 8 servings.
- 1 kg peaches
- 350 g sugar
- 75 ml water
- 200 g all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder (5 g)
- Salt
- 300 g whole milk
- 90 g butter
- Ground cinnamon

How to Make Peach Cobbler Step by Step
1. Preheat the Oven and Start the Peaches
First, preheat the oven to 180 ºC with top and bottom heat, no fan. Peel 1 kg of peaches and cut them into even pieces. Put all the peach in a saucepan, add 175 g of sugar and 75 ml of water, and mix everything together well.

2. Caramelize the Peaches
Place the saucepan over medium heat and let it cook for 10 minutes from the moment the mixture comes to a boil. Then take the saucepan off the heat and set it aside.

3. Make the Cobbler Batter
Now prepare the cobbler batter. Put 200 g of all-purpose flour, the remaining 175 g of sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking powder and 1 pinch of salt in a bowl and mix well. Then add 300 g of whole milk little by little while whisking until you have a smooth, lump-free mixture with a texture similar to a light béchamel.

4. Melt the Butter in the Dish
Place 90 g of butter in a baking dish and, while the oven is preheating, put the dish inside so the butter melts.

5. Pour the Batter Over the Butter
Once the butter has melted, take the dish out of the oven and pour the cobbler batter over the butter. There is no need to stir at this point, simply add the batter on top.

6. Add the Peaches
Next, place the lightly drained peaches on top.

7. Add the Syrup and Cinnamon
Finally, add a couple of tablespoons of the liquid that formed in the peach saucepan and sprinkle with a little ground cinnamon.

8. Bake the Cobbler
Place the dish on the middle rack of the oven and bake at 180 ºC, with top and bottom heat, for about 50 minutes.

9. Serve the Cobbler Warm
Serve this peach cobbler freshly made so you can enjoy it warm, which is when it tastes best.

Tips for the Best Peach Cobbler
Fresh or Canned Peaches
Fresh peaches are ideal when they are in season, but peaches in syrup work perfectly well too. If you use canned peaches, skip the caramelizing step and continue with the rest of the recipe exactly as written.
Pick the Right Baking Dish
The quantities in this recipe are calculated for a rectangular baking dish of roughly 25 x 20 cm. Using a much larger or smaller dish will change how thick the layers end up and how evenly the cobbler bakes.
How to Serve It
The most classic way to serve peach cobbler is warm and freshly made, with a scoop of ice cream on top. It is absolutely irresistible that way.
