You don't need a juicer to make it at home. A quick blanching step makes the tomatoes easy to peel, and a simple blender does the rest. Serve it ice-cold with salt and pepper on the side so everyone can season their glass just the way they like it.

Ingredients for Tomato Juice

This recipe makes 1 serving.

  • 150 g ripe red tomatoes
  • 1 stalk celery
  • Salt
  • Ground black pepper

Ingredients for making tomato juice: tomatoes, celery, salt and pepper

How to Make Tomato Juice Step by Step

1. Peel the tomatoes

Bring a small pot of water to a boil. Score a cross into the base of the 150 g of red tomatoes and plunge them into the hot water for 30 seconds. When you lift them out, the skin will have loosened and be much easier to pull off.

2. Cut the celery

Wash 1 stalk of celery, pull away the strings, and set the leaves aside for garnish. Chop the stalk into small pieces so it blends smoothly with the tomatoes.

3. Blend the tomatoes and celery, then strain

Using a blender, process the peeled tomatoes together with the celery. If you prefer a thinner drink, loosen it with 2 tablespoons of water. Strain the juice for a finer texture, though this step is optional.

4. Serve

Divide the juice among glasses and garnish each one with the reserved celery leaves, which double as a stirrer. Serve with salt and pepper on the side so each person can season their juice to taste.

Tips for the Best Tomato Juice

Drink it fresh

Tomato juice is best enjoyed right after it's made, because the solids and water will separate if it sits. If that happens, simply stir it with a spoon or with the celery stalk before drinking.

Swap in cucumber

If you don't have celery, cucumber makes a great substitute. Just remove the seeds first so the juice stays smooth and doesn't turn watery.

Season and flavor to taste

Beyond salt and pepper, a few drops of Worcestershire sauce or Tabasco add depth or heat. You can also blend in aromatic herbs like basil or oregano for a fragrant twist.
